Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind

Once I had a love and it was divine
Soon found out I was losing my mind
It seemed like the real thing but I was so blind
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind

In between
What I find is pleasing and I'm feeling fine
Love is so confusing there's no peace of mind
If I fear I'm losing you it's just no good
You teasing like you do

Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out had a heart of glass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind

Lost inside
Adorable illusion and I cannot hide
I'm the one you're using, please don't push me aside
We coulda made it cruising, yeah

La, da, da, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, da, da, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, da, da, la, la, la, la, la, la, la
Yeah, riding high on love's true bluish light

Ooh, oh, ooh, oh
Ooh, oh, ooh, oh

Once I had a love and it was a gas
Soon turned out to be a pain in the ass
Seemed like the real thing, only to find
Mucho mistrust, love's gone behind

Ooh, oh, ooh, oh
Ooh, oh, ooh, oh

This song is about thinking you are in love, and how a relationship can suck but you are in denial because you don't want it to end. When you think you're in love, everything is great. But when a relationship ends, it turns out that your heart wasn't as strong as you thought. And in between, everything is fine.

LMFAO, 'Anal Sex'. Damn either your perverted or your imagination needs a leash. I love this song though, wooooo Blondie are awesome. Obviously about thinking love is amazing and all great then you find out it's not and you get a broken heart.... love it thoughhhh

I think it means she fell in love with this guy and she was sure he was feeling the same and it was divine and the real thing. Then he broke her heart and she has a heart of glass because she opened up her heart to him and became so vulnerable that her heart broke so easily like glass. Now she finds love confusing and can't trust her feelings or the guy. That's what I get out of this song because this same thing is happening to me right now. Guys can be so misleading about their feelings and intentions.

The song was originally called "Once I Had a Love" and it was a slower song. But it was changed to a Disco song, since that was popular.

"Once I Had a Love" is on the Blondie Platinum Collection.

An amazing song of how hurtful love can be and how fragile emotions are.

Blondie is amazing! I think this song may be about how a girl once had love many times before but it wasnt right and she doesnt have it anymore. Also the heart of glass metaphor to me means that her heart can shatter easily and she can't seem to find love and looks in all the wrong places. But thats just my opinion, it's probally wrong but oh well. All in all this is a great song and Blondie is a great singer. =]

I thought this song was about a girl getting played by a guy who only wanted sex and she thought he was in love with her. You know how the beginning of a relationship can be magical, the guy made her feel great and then dumped her.

I listened to the Mini Mansions version of this but its all the same song. i found that this is about being led on and how it is a total kick in your hearts butt. If youve ever been led on then you could probably relate to the song.

I think it's just awful how Celine Dion has stolen the riff from this great song. What does Blondie think about this?

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,
