"Song About An Angel" as written by Jeremy Enigk, William Goldsmith, Dan Hoerner and Nate Mendal....
man: so i say still away sleep close my eyes
an image of your face traced in white sand
underneath undefined i lay down arms outstretched
i embrace the fall.
and all the time i tried
to let you know discomfort comes clearly.
sometimes you see right through me
angel: words. you're married to your pain
man: although you hit me hard i come back
the earth cries ease the pain. on the inside
run behind. which one will i face?
angel: thin comfort in what i say
my back is turned a halo my soul for a while
and all the time i tried to let you know
discomfort comes clearly.

General CommentThis song has a Buddhist quality to it. You could almost think of the song as someone conversing with his or her own pure Spirit. Some traditions will call it an angel, some will call it the singer's own Buddha-nature.

The singer is lucidly dreaming about trying to fall away, laying outstretched. Trying to find God in the sand. You get the impression that the singer is hurting, seeking closure, and close, but unable to find it. Very elusive.

The angel delivers crushing but liberating advice: You are married to your pain. Your pain is the rope tethering you to where you are.

This just adds to the pain of the singer. If you look at it from a certain perspective, the entire Earth cries. The path of evolution for just about every creature and species has been unquestionably brutal and full of saddness.

The angel isn't about to get caught up in a discussion about which pain to face first. "My back is turned".

And finally: in the end, aren't all of our discomforts already crystal clear? Perhaps the problem is that we don't actually want to find them, we just want to wallow in our pain.

General Commentman: so i stay, still awake. sleep, close my eyes. an image of your face, traced in white sand. underneath. undefined. i lay down, and arms outstretched. i embrace the fall. and all the time i tried to let you know discomfort comes clearly.

    woah (oooh) [x6.]
sometimes, you see right through me.

angel: words. words. your married to it, your married to it. your married to your pain.

man: althought you hit me hard, i come back. the earth cries when i cry, on the inside. running behind, which one will i face? running behind. which one will i..

angel: think comfort in what i say, my back is turned.
an image of myself. is it you wanted? and all the time i tried to let you know discomfort comes clearly. when ill show.

    Woah (ooooh) [x6.]
sometimes you see right through me.

angel: words. words. your married to it, your married to your pain.

man: although you hit me hard, i come back. the earth cries when i cry on the inside. running behind, which one will i face? running behind, which one will i face? which one will i..

General CommentI didnt get what this song meant at first, but after a few weeks of listening to them, i think i know now what it's saying. Song Meaning:

It's clearly a conversation. The sad thing is that it goes nowhere. The man and angel dont help each other in anything they say to each other. It's as if the song is talking to itself. Its just a bunch of words. Neither sees the significance of speech, and instead recognizes that there is pain. In the end they both say the same thing, "discomfort comes clearly." The man and angel both know they are too different to even try to relate. And its clear to both of them that this "pain" they have will not go away after their so-called conversation. The angel has a duty to the halo, and the man is married to "pain" or sin. They are attempting to find some release but in the end realize that it's just a clearly seen discomfort.

Sunny day real estate for life. This song is better than any other stuff out there. I wish i had an angel to talk to...

General CommentThis song, to put it bluntly, is a masterpiece.

So beautifully written, so much emotion in it; she is his angel and yet she will not endow him with her attention. Instead, he marries himself to his pain and is forced to live a life which is, quite frankly, dismal and depressing.

I hate to say it, but as much as I theorize it could be about Jeremy's struggle with God, I see the angel as being a girl. The man in the song is madly in love with her, but she will not give him the time of day. But, instead of being smart and getting over her, he falls deeper, devoting all of himself to her. She is like an angel; a thing that he cherishes. He screams in desperation for her to just let him feel one moment of happiness.

But, in the end, discomfort comes clearly.

General Commentdidn't sdre's lead singer become a born again christian?

this just seems kind of fortelling of the situation.

General CommentI love the way the 2 characters are so different in vocal quality. The man is harsh and screaming while the angel is melodic and smooth
