There's times where I want something more
Someone more like me
There's times when this dress rehearsal
Seems incomplete
But you see the colors in me like no one else
And behind your dark glasses, you're
You're something else

And you're really lovely
Underneath it all
And you want to love me
Underneath it all
I'm really lucky
Underneath it all
And you're really lovely

You know some real bad tricks
And you need some discipline
But lately you've been trying real hard
And giving me your best
And you give me the most gorgeous sleep
That I've ever had
And when it's really bad
I guess it's not that bad

You're really lovely
Underneath it all
And you want to love me
Underneath it all
I'm really lucky
Underneath it all
And you're really lovely

And so many moons that we have seen
Stumbling back next to me
I've seen right through and underneath
And you make me better
I've seen right through and underneath
And you make me better, better, better

For real
'Cause underneat' it all, you are my real Prince Charmin'
Like the heat from the fire, you were always burnin'
Any time you're around, my body keeps callin'
For your touch, your kisses and your sweet romancin'
There's another side of you, weh this a woman yah adore
Aside from your temper, everything else secure
You're good for me, baby, for that, I'm sure
'Cause over and over again, me want more

You've used up all your coupons
And all you've got left is me
And somehow I'm full of forgiveness
I guess it's meant to be

And you're really lovely
Underneath it all
And you want to love me
Underneath it all
I'm really lucky
Underneath it all
And you're really lovely

And you're really lovely
Underneath it all
And you want to love me
Underneath it all
I'm really lucky
Underneath it all
And you're really lovely

Mm, mm, mm
Underneath it all
Mm, mm, mm
Underneath it all
Mm, mm, mm
Underneath it all
Mm, mm, mm
Underneath it all

You all suck. This just shows that you're all No Doubt Fan Posers! You can't make the same music over and over agian, you should be happy that they're growing as artists and experimenting with new material. This song and so many others are great on the new album. Stop trying to catagorize yourselves and open up your minds. You shouldn't give a shit what your ska friends will say if you still listen to No doubt.

The Live Ascoutic version at the end of "The Singles" is better. Without the rap bit.

Wow. There's a lot of stuff up here that has nothing to do with the meaning of the song.

I agree with heavens_mistake about the song being kinda ironic. That's how I see it. She is in love with this guy so much, that she has herself convinced that even though he's an ass, he has good intentions and somewhere underneath it all he's a good person who loves her too. I feel like that sometimes. I really love this song even though it reminds me how I can be pathetic like that too. My favorite part is: "You've used up all your coupons And all you've got left is me And somehow I'm full of forgiveness I guess it's meant to be."

That is how I feel about my significant other sometimes. If it wasn't meant to be, I would've dropped him by now, right?

It can also be taken to mean that she sees the good in him like no one else can and that's why she loves him so much. That's a happier way of seeing it.

not that this'll ever get changed and i don't expect white kids who are so devastated by no doubt having lady saw on their record (which i love by the way; i mean, god forbid they try something new a put a little reggae into their already heavily reggae-influenced ska music), but, here is what lady saw is actually saying:

cause underneath it all, you are my real prince charming like the heat from the fire you are always burning anytime you're around my body keeps calling for your touch, your kisses, and your sweet romancing there's another side of you that this woman adore aside from your temper, everything else secure i know you're good for me baby of that i'm sure cause over and over again, me want more

anywho, this song is about gwen and gavin. and their day at the park :) and about how he's really lovely underneath it all.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
