Underlying
Oh, so more important here
Any kind
Oh, what ever shakes a thrill
Mark my face
The air is really heavy now
I pledge allegiance
So God, why don't you come on over here

D-I-E-D
Oh, that's what has happened to you
G-R-E-E-D
Well, there is nothing more to take
Pour the red wine
Watch the news, maybe ventilate
I pledge allegiance
So laddy, why don't you come on over here

Letters from the porcupine
They'll stick straight through you
So read one anytime
You think you've made mistakes
Now we'll wait for later
Maybe the next in line will be
Someone who's Daddy's blood
Ran out next to Bush and it be him

I really like this song because Shannon actually left this as a message on one of the band member's recording machine and so when shannon died he decided to put this on nico cuz it sounded really good. I really like how shannon would leave messages like this on his friends message machines.

I'm really confused by this song. Does anybody understand the last stanza? Seems like a political song. And if read one way it can seem almost prophetic. Shannon died in 1995. Clinton was pres. Well, George W. was elected in 2000. The last line says, "Maybe the next in line will be someone who's Daddy's blood, ran out next to Bush and it be him." Maybe I'm way off or just overanalyzing. Anybody?

thagunk, I agree with you. I've been wondering whether it was known at that time that George W, was going to run in some future election. (And whether this would have even been information that Shannon was likely to know). I'm very wary of "conspiracy theories", so I wasn't going to be the first to mention this seemingly strange occurance, thanks.

Maybe Shannon just thought that George Bush Sr. was an idiot and feared some one would dare tread in his fottsteps.

Unfortunately for Shannon and us alike, the future gave him right...

Prophetic, indeed... there's really no other way to take that. Maybe it was just a lucky guess, seeing how George W. was always into politics in one form or another, as well as his brother Jeb. But still... creepy.

Bush Sr. obviously had been president when this was written and Bush Jr. was Gov. of Texas at the time. If I remember the Texas Gov. race got a ton of media coverage, so this song may seem prophetic however its also just name dropping, political pop culture from the mid 1990's.

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
