Utopia - lost in chaos
As the sky turns black
Suicidal legacy
There is no turning back

Retribution answers cold
Moving in for the kill
Deep hideous festering
Bestial epidemic, repulsive need

Control, control

Suicide nation
Mass-appeal, death-addiction
Dead but dreaming
Restrained by phobia, brainwashed into submission
Control, control

Suicide - jaws locked around your spine

Retribution answers cold
Moving in for the kill
Deep hideous festering
Bestial epidemic, repulsive need

Control, control

Suicide - jaws locked around your spine

General CommentAbout the failures of modern society to provide meaning for the lives of its members, resulting in a fearful, morbid populace.

General CommentThis just reminded me a lot of the book Fahrenheit 451 (Ray Bradbury). Pretty much line for line. So that would make this about dystopian society.. a society that believes it is perfect (utopian) but really has certain fatal flaws that go almost completely unnoticed.

Lets see.. the people referred to are depressed, yet believe they are happy. An extreme number of people are committing suicide. Those that are alive are more like shells, animals, dead people than someone alive. And their society is completely controlled.. nothing is left optional and no one is given much choice in their life.

Whether or not I'm right, I have no idea..

General CommentAt the Gates are my new love. You guys are wrong about the suicide rate though, Sweden is comparable to the US when it comes to that, not even in the top 10. Lithuania is #1.

Highest suicide rate is in Russia, followed by other former USSR countries. Sweden and US are nowhere near top.

This song has multiple meanings but I don't really think it matters what it means exactly. Just a suicide theme.

General CommentThis is from the linear notes in the re-release of Slaughter of the Soul...meaning behind Suicide Nation:

"What I was trying to say in this track was basically that you're never safe in the throwaway society of today. Either you are trapped under its speeding wheels or consumed in the excess of it... Does Sweden really have the highest suicide rate in the world? I'll be damned if I know... the sound of the gun being loaded at the start of the track is stolen from 'Reservoir Dogs', we were always big film freaks..."
