"Out of Range" as written by and Ani Difranco....
Just the thought
Of our bed
Makes me crumble like the plaster
Where you punched the wall beside my head
And I try
To draw the line
But it ends up running down the middle of me
Most of the time

Boys get locked up in some prison
Girls get locked up in some house
And it don't matter if it's a warden
Or a lover
Or a spouse
You just can't talk to 'em
You just can't reason
You just can't leave
And you just can't please 'em

I was locked
Into being my mother's daughter
I was just eating bread and water
Thinking
Nothing ever changes
And I was shocked
To see the mistakes of each generation
Will just fade like a radio station
If you drive out of range

If you're not angry
You're just stupid
Or you don't care
How else can you react
When you know
Something's so unfair
The men of the hour
Can kill half the world in war
Make them slaves to a super power
And let them die poor

I was locked
Into being my mother's daughter
I was just eating bread and water
Thinking
Nothing ever changes
And I was shocked
To see the mistakes of each generation
Will just fade like a radio station
If you drive out of range

Just the thought
Of our bed
Makes me crumble like the plaster
Where you punched the wall beside my head
And I try
To draw the line
But it ends up running down the middle of me
Most of the time

Baby I love you
That's why I'm leaving
There's no talking to you
And there's no pleasing you
And I care enough
That I'm mad
That half the world don't even know
What they could have had

I was locked
Into being my mother's daughter
I was just eating bread and water
Thinking
Nothing ever changes
And I was shocked
To see the mistakes of each generation
Will just fade like a radio station
If you drive out of range

General Commentim in a cintemplative mood and i cannot seem to figue out a way to explain how i feel so i will use my friend's words: n0dEt0N01: it means that the person that the songwriter loves is a pain in the ass and has hurt the songwriter

i supose so. there is more tho. i cant explain it

General Commentwhat i think this song is about is how everything seems like it will never change..or perhaps, how after a while everything seems so constant and the same old same old..because of the fact that we have grown accustomed to the way things are, we dont see any other way, and we dont see that there are always options if we just get up and take a walk on a different path..with lovers, after a while, things become mundayne, you feel like theres no pleasing them or any excitment..and we let society just remain the way it is, reguardless of how poorly things may be going, just because either were afraid or we just dont have faith in the fact that we can make a difference if we took a stand or went down an opposite route..we just, as a whole, tend to sit back and not do anything about our unhappiness or about the problems in the world, and just let everything remain, and thats how it will stay until the day we fade away, age, and die..change is what gives strength and growth...im having problems explaining myself hah, but maybe you get the picture?

General CommentOkay........first of all if you have ever seen the movie "The Joy Luck Club" you will understand this song. It's about the discovery of finding out that she doesn't have to make the mistakes her mother made and the generations before her (i was locked
into being my mother's daughter i was just eating bread and water thinking nothing ever changes) she can LEAVE. The further away she gets (out of range)from that influence the more likely she can become a strong, independant woman with boundries (i try to draw the line but it ends up running down the middle of me most of the time) in her relationships
