"Every Word" as written by Paul Denman, Stuart Matthewman, Helen Adu and Andrew Hale....
(Love is what the word was)
I saw a picture
How could you be so careless
How could you have done that to us
And I write this letter
I send it all back to you
And every word you said

In there every word, oh oh oh oh
How could you have done that to us

You treated me like a stranger
And all the time I was loving you
All your slick moves
They were once innocent moves
I wanted to look up to you
I really trusted you
And every word you said

In there every word, oh oh oh oh
How could you have done that to us

(Love is what the word was)
I was loving you like a child
All the time you were smiling
The same smile
I was loving you like a child
I really trusted you

Every word you said
Every word you said
(Love is what the word was)

Every word you said
Every word you said
(Love is what the word was)
(Love is what the word was)

Every word you said
Every word you said

I was loving you like a child
All the time you were smiling
The same smile
I was loving you like a child
I really trusted you

Every word you said
Every word you said
(Love is what the word was)
I send it back to you, yeah
(Love is what the word was)

Every word you said
Every word you said
(Love is what the word was)
I send it all back to you, yeah
(Love is what the word was)

General CommentI think this song is about her father, who she wants so desperately to love but he always deceives her and her mother (possibly by cheating on her mother) and she is trying to deal with that. Its quite a powerful song really.

General CommentGreat Song... THis has to be about cheating... Although I like the idea that this song is deeper... about family... But I try not to link any of her songs to her... Just the story....

General Commenti think that this song is about cheating...he cheated on her..he treated her like a stranger while she was loving him...has anyone felt like that? your so in love with someone, they treat you like shit, but u cant stop loving them...his moves were once innocent moves..now they're slick moves...he was in love with her at some point, but he fell out of love and he was just playing her in the end...the story of my life

My InterpretationWhen I sing this song it brings chills to my body!

"You treated me like a stranger
And all the time I was loving you
    All your slick moves
    They were once innocent moves
I wanted to look up to you"

Sade loves this man with an unquestionable type of adoration. "I wanted to look up to you" but he is deceiving her "All your slick moves".

I was loving you like a child
All the time you were smiling
    The same smile
I was loving you like a child

Loving someone like a child is unconditional. Sade loves her man no matter how bad he treats her. The man is a charmer thinking he can get away with anything. That is why he is smiling that same old smile.
