"Man on the Side" as written by and Stevie Ray Vaughan....
Six numbers one more to dial
Before I'm before you
I tried to call been busy all night
Gave up waitin' at daylight

Excuse me Mrs. Busybody
Could you pencil me in when you can?
Though we both know that the worst part about it
Is I would be free when you wanted me, if you wanted me

I am the man on the side
Hopin' you'll make up your mind
I am the one who will swallow his pride
Life as the man on the side

One of the many
One of the few
To stand back and wait for you

Excuse me Mrs. Busybody
Could you pencil me in when you can?
Though we both know that the worst part about it
Is I would be free when you wanted me
If you wanted me
If you wanted me, hey, hey

I am the man on the side
Hopin' you'll make up your mind
I am the one who will swallow his pride
Life as the man on the side
Life as the man on the side

I fell in love with a dream that I built of you
Playin' the part of the queen
Takin' my own advice
I'm givin' up tonight, good luck to you and the king

Excuse me Mrs. Busybody
Could you pencil me in when you can?
Though we both know that the worst part about it
Is I would be free if you wanted me
When, when you wanted me
Ohh, when you wanted babe

I am the man on the side
Hopin' you'll make up your mind
I am the one who will swallow his pride
Life as a man, you know life as a man
Livin' life as a man on the side

General CommentGee, another John Mayer song I can relate to. I use the lyrics of this song a lot when I get angry at this girl I know for blowing me off all the time. It usually works to get my message across to her. My favorite part of this song has definitely got to be the verse that starts off "I feel in love with the dream that I built of you..." That describes how I've been feeling lately to a T. Anyway, just another great song from the man himself, John Mayer.

General CommentDon't blame it on the girls, Guys can't figure out what they want either! I've been that GIRL on the side.

I agree that this song is one of the BEST! But i enjoy all of his songs.

General CommentI love this song because it gives you that perspective of that guy that you might not even know likes you and you just don't give him the time of day. Your so busy with your whole other life that you don't realize that he is really the only man who cares for you.

General CommentThis song can only be described as awsome. All his lyrics just blow me away, but this song just makes my heart bleed when I hear it. John is very talented, and I hope he stays around for many more years to come.

General CommentThis is such an awesome song. why can't everybody write songs are personal as john. I guess that wouldn't be a good thing than nobody would stand out as much as he does.
I fell in love with the dream that I built of you
Playing the part of the Queen
    Taking my own advice
    I'm giving up tonight
Good luck to you and the King

i love that line. This is a really good crush song i know we've all been there before in one aspect or another.

General Commenti've been listening to john for nearly a year now, and i must say i have fallen in love with almost every song he's written at some point or another. "man on the side", right now is my favorite by far. the way his voice hints at a deeper sadness through cynicism (ahh, enough big words? sorry about that) is so touching. this is a song that i have yet to find anyone who cannot in some way relate to, and i plan to play it 'till the speakers melt.
