"These Dreams" as written by Martin George Page and Bernie Taupin....
Spare a little candle
Save some light for me
Figures up ahead
Moving in the trees
White skin in linen
Perfume on my wrist
And the full moon that hangs over
These dreams in the mist

Darkness on the edge
Shadows where I stand
I search for the time
On a watch with no hands
I want to see you clearly
Come closer than this
But all I remember
Are the dreams in the mist

These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away

Is it cloak 'n' dagger
Could it be spring or fall
I walk without a cut
Through a stained glass wall
Weaker in my eyesight
The candle in my grip
And words that have no form
Are falling from my lips

These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away

There's something out there
I can't resist
I need to hide away from the pain
There's something out there
I can't resist

The sweetest song is silence
That I've ever heard
Funny how your feet
In dreams never touch the earth
In a wood full of princes
Freedom is a kiss
But the prince hides his face
From dreams in the mist

These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away

These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake the further I'm away

My InterpretationFirst off I believe that the over all background of the song is about things we dream of in dreams rather weird, fantasy,or fairytale. In this song she took the fairytale approach ,and added somewhat of a mystery (but lots of this is self explanatory).Let's look at the following :

    Spare a little candle
    Save some light for me

( They are in mid evil times ,because there using candles)

    Figures up ahead
    moving in the trees

( In dreams commonly there are things that chase us, also she could be setting a feel for the song, place, and time she's in).

    White skin in linen
    perfume on my wrist

(Also this is what she was dressed in.She could be playing the part of a princess in her dream that needs to be saved by a prince who she can only kinda see in her dreams, and there are shadows ,and things keeping her from being free).

And the full moon that hangs over
    These dreams in the mist
    Darkness on the edge
    Shadows where I stand

    ( She's telling a story here,and setting the foundation )

    I search for the time
on a watch with no hands

( This could mean that she's looking for more time, that she can't never seem to find ,since she's dreaming there could be lots of delusion )

I want to see you clearly
    Come closer than this
    But all that I remember
Are the dreams in the mist

( Self explanatory) - See can't see him as he is ,until the 2nd verse where she finally tell us he's a prince.

These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night, I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake, the further I'm away

( So those are the dreams she dream every nite,it's as if she lives another life. Every moment she's awake in the real world the further away from her other dream life she is.)

Is it cloak and dagger, could it be spring or fall
I walk without a cut through a stained glass wall

( In a dream it is what you make it,you can change the weather or walk through things without getting hurt. )

weaker in my eyesight, the candle in my grip
And words that have no form
    Are falling from my lips

( She could be so scared ,it's dark she has a candle .She may not know what to speak,so she's stumbling over her words )

These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night, I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake, the further I'm away ( REpeat)

    There's something out there
    I can't resist
I need to hide away from the pain
    There's something out there
    I can't resist

( She knows there's something out there, someone out there, she can't see it,and she's scared of it so she feels the need to run from it. She can't resist.)

The sweetest song is silence that I've ever heard

( Out of all the songs she's ever heard silence is the best.)

It's funny how your feet in dreams never touch the earth

(Of course your feet never touch the earth, because your dreaming. )

In a wood full of princes freedom is a kiss
But the prince hides his face from dreams in the mist

( This is were she finally tells us that it is a prince, and that his kiss is like freedom, and that he is the one in the first verse who was hiding his face,That she couldn't see in the mist.)

These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night, I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake, the further I'm away (repeat)

These dreams go on when I close my eyes
Every second of the night, I live another life
These dreams that sleep when it's cold outside
Every moment I'm awake, the further I'm away (repeat)

And that's my interpretation it's a great story, mixed with great emotion, and thought. Great thing about this song is you can interpreted, and conform it into your on thought, and imagination.

General CommentLOL I think my fave line is "I walk without a cut through a stained glass wall" but I have always seen stained glass as glorious and beautiful and perhaps almost spiritual when the light shines through it......

General CommentI heard a theory it could be about her dreaming of being in a witch's circle, chanting or in some kind of seance while chanting . think about the line "weaker in my eyesight, the candle in my grip And words that have no form Are falling from my lips"

General CommentI know this song is lame, but I love it or used to at least. It made me think of thirteen year old girls running through a mystical forest in their pajamas laughing and giggling yet there was no sound at all and they minded they might find some princes that are waiting for them. Playing a game of hide and seek. It was a cute image.

... but reading the interpretation posted. That's absolutely wonderful and gorgeous, knowing it has much more meaning than that. ... I used to dream of a faceless man in red sheets and other random places. he stopped coming to me in my dreams a long time ago. Anyway, Heart > awesomesauce.

General CommentI have a recording of a "Supergroups In Concert" where she changes the lyrics a tiny bit. Instead of "White skin, in linen" she says "White skin, black leather".
