"April 8th" as written by and Jeff Mangum....
Crawl across toward your window
I'm calling softly from the street
Always a lonely widow
Half awake and sleeping on my feet

I'm of age but have no children
No quarter phone booth calls to home
Just late television
Inside my bedroom all alone

There is no use in waiting
Offer up your steps so I can climb
Show me all your figure paintings
Etched in the middle of the night

Let me stretch upon your carpet
Let me hear the rain tap on your street
Knowing I am safe on the inside
Blankets wrapped and drifting off to sleep

General CommentI know this may souind wierd, but when I hear this song I feel that it's not really there. It's like i'm imagining it or something. I feel like I've fallen asleep while the cd was still playing and I've just dreamed up the song.

General CommentApril 8th is also the date of the last chapter in William Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury.

General CommentWell, aside from that, the date of April 8th was supposed to be a contrast to April 1st in the album - April 8th is exactly a week on from then...

I figured the title was supposed to be about how absolutely everything can change in just a week.

General CommentIt's surprisingly straightforward for a band that later wrote about making fetuses with flesh licking ladies, and magic and medicine in one's ovaries

General CommentI'll probably be repeating what everyone else has said, but it's about loneliness, and the wanting and yearning and inability that comes with it. The hope that someone will just pick you up and make you safe, not lonely anymore. Wishing foolishly that someone would swoop down with some saving grace, and somewhere knowing it's impossible, but holding onto that slim chance with all the hope a lonely person can have.

General CommentThis is weird. I've been a fan of NMH for a couple years, and I just decided to playlist.com some of their songs, and listened to this song for the first time ever, on April 8th. (Technically April 9th because it's 2am.) But it's also weird because I'm in bed wrapped in covers, watching late night tv and nobody else is up, I'm alone, and it has been raining all night and I can hear it tapping. I love this song.
