Daddy, please hear this song that I sing
In your heart there's a spark that just screams
For a lover to bring
A child to your arms
That could lay as you sleep,
And love all that you are
Like your boy used to be
Before he went out and tore your heart

Sister, please, with those wings in your spine
Love to be with a brother of mine
How he'd love to hide your tongue in his teeth
In a struggle to find
Secret songs that you keep
Very deep in your eyes
Sounding only at night as you sleep

And in my dreams you're alive and you're crying
Move your mouth into mine, soft and sweet
Rings of flowers round your eyes
And I'll love you
1945 is real

Brother see we are one and the same
And you left with your head filled with flames
And you watched as your brains
Fell out through your teeth
Push the pieces in place
Make your smile sweet to see
Don't you take this away
I'm still wanting my tongue on your cheek

And when we break
We'll wait for our miracle
God is a place where some holy spectacle lies
And when we break
We'll wait for our miracle
God is a place you will wait for the rest of your life

Two-headed boy
She is all you could need
She will feed you tomatoes
And radio wire
And retire to sheets safe and clean
But don't hate her when she gets up to leave

    General Comment

without commenting on the literal aspect of the story of this song, i think the message behind is about gods existence (liek the rest of the album)

i think the two headed boy is an agnostic: two ideas in the one person, fighting against each other. Brother see we are one in the same And you left with your head filled with flames

Two headed boy she is all you could need She will feed you tomatoes and radio wires And retire to sheets safe and clean But don't hate her when she gets up to leave

she here is god, a matriarchal mother figure whose connection to us is closer than the formalized patrichal religions that just turn agnostics off religion completely i feel like jeff mangums trying to persuade us, to tell us that god can just be this mother child connection and also that we shouldnt reject the idea of god just because goodness isnt always there: 'dont hate her when she gets up to leave'

i dont know if this is what jeff magnum thought when he write thos, but i wouldnt say its wrong, becuase the beauty of NMH lyrics is that without thought they seem like nothing: just beutiful words put together incoherently, but they can actually mean a million different things to different people, or a million differnt things to the one person at the same time. its songs like this that convince me to never declare a god as nonexistent, only unknowable

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
