General CommentIt is "Watch that speed freak / Watch that speed freak / Gonna shoot it up every night of the week!" in the live version but the studio version is: "Watch that side, watch that side don't you know it gonna be dead in the drive"

General CommentThe title and hook (as well as somewhat musically) sounds like it might have been inspired by George Jones' 1959 rockabilly hit 'White Lightning', which is about moonshine.

Changing the meaning to a certain different kind of drug (heroine/amphetamines), it is performed appropriately more punk and faster.

I'm actually a bit surprised that this connection has apparently never been made before.

General CommentI hate to point out well-known things but here:
White Light refers to heroin, and White Heat refers to am amphetamines. Just another great song by the VU, as well.

General CommentYes it´s rather well known. This is a song about shoting illigal stuff. Have anyone heard Bowies version of the song. That version blows me away everytime I hear it.

General CommentI have four versions of this song... the album version, a live one, a live one with just Lou, and the David Bowie one. Have to say, the one on the WL/WH album is probably the weakest, it's just so much better live! I kinda like the David Bowie one, especially the line: 'White Light make me sing like Lou Reed/ White light gonna fulfil my EVERY need!'

General CommentI thought it was "Watch that speed freak / Watch that speed freak / Gonna shoot it up every night of the week!"

The original and live versions are pure awesomeness. Also, at the end of most live versions, in the last half of a minute, Lou shouts "higher!" and the guitars go higher and higher until they turn into these crazed sirens of feedback before ending the song. It...is...fantastic.

General Commentwhile this album may be among their weakest, i still think it might be their most underrated.

this song is obviously about lou reed falling in love with light bulbs: molesting them(tickling him), lookin at them too long(go blind) and using them as vaporizers and not using the clear ones(mess up my brain). he gets a hard on just seeing street lamps(hey foxy mama). hes also a bad driver cuz he cant stop lookin at headlights. also if you play the song backwards you can hear lou reed saying "this song is about lightbulbs".
