"Understanding In A Car Crash" as written by Robert Iii Keeley, Timothy Payne, Steven Pedulla, Geoffrey Rickly and Thomas Rule....
Splintered piece of glass falls in the seat of gets caught
These broken windows, open locks, reminders of the youth we lost
In trying so hard to look away from you
we followed white lines to the sunset
I crash my car everyday the same way

Time to let this pass
(the time it takes, the time it takes to let go)
Time runs through our veins
(it starts and stops and starts and stops again)
We don't stand a chance in this threadbare time
(the time it takes, the time it takes to let go)
Time to let this pass
(the time it takes, the time it takes to let go)

Staring at the setting sun
No reason to come back again
The twilight world in blue and white
The needle and the damage done

I don't want to feel this way forever
A dead letter marked return to sender

The broken watch you gave me turns into a compass
It's hands still point to the same time 12:03, our last goodbye

So push the seats back a little further
I can see the headlights coming
So push the seats back a little further
Roll the windows down and take a breath
I can see the headlights coming
They paint the world in red and broken glass

Time to let this pass
(the time it takes, the time it takes to let go)
Time runs through our veins.
(it starts and stops and starts and stops again)
We don't stand a chance in this threadbare time
(the time it takes, the time it takes to let go)
Time to let this pass
(the time it takes, the time it takes to let go)

Staring at the setting sun
No reason to come back again
The twilight world in blue and white
The needle and the damage done

I don't want to feel this way forever
A dead letter marked return to sender

The spinning hubcaps set the tempo for the music of a broken window
the cameras on and the cameras click
we open up the lens and can't stop

Staring at the setting sun
No reason to come back again
The twilight world in blue and white
The needle and the damage done

I don't want to feel this way forever
the lights are on and the cameras click
we open up the lens to broken glass

Staring at the setting sun
No reason to come back again
The twilight world in blue and white
The needle and the damage done

i don't want to feel this way for every
a dead letter marked return to sender

(I'll never understand
Understanding in a car crash)

General CommentWhen I listen to this song, I imagine what type of understanding you suddenly have when you are sitting in a car, and you realize that it is about to crash and there is nothing you can do about it. Thats obviously the most intense kind of situation, but more generally its about accepting the inevitablity of pain in life. There are some times you know your life is about to get really fucked up and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it but accept it and move on. Thats what the understanding in a car crash is.

Song MeaningI think the song is about him leaning on drugs to help him cope with his friend dying... And he doesn't want to keep using them (I don't want to feel this way forever), but every day he feels the loss again (crash my car everyday the same way) and has to go back to his drugs (the twilight world in blue in white, the needle and the damage done)

General Commentwhen i went to a thursday show, geoff dedicated this song to anyone who's ever lost someone to a car crash. he said he wrote it for his close friend whom he lost to an accident. you're all wrong, fools.

General CommentTo me this song is about being in a car crash, and the very last thoughts that run through your head.
The understanding of life in the last few seconds of your own...or err..something. Meh. Probably not what the song is about at all but that's what it means to me.

General CommentThis song is about how devastating a car crash could be. If you know someone that was in a car crash like that, or if you've been in one yourself, then you'd know what it can be like. I have a friend who's paralyzed from the waist down, that shit don't really have a hidden message to it. This song is fucking brilliant.

General CommentWoah this song is amazing. I'm so glad I finally got to read the lyrics. It's amazing the pictures they have painted with their words. You have to wonder what the car crash is a metaphor for. He mentions needles and flowing though our veins. Could the daily car crash be drugs?

General Commentthis song is simply about a broken relationship.... it talks about their last goodbye and how it affects him. he is constantly depressed and feels as if he wants to crash his car. thankyou.
