"Unemployed Boyfriend" as written by Art Alexakis, Craig Montoya and Greg Eklund....
This is gonna sound
A little obsessive
A little bit strange
I have one thing to say
Before I turn and I walk away
This is gonna sound
A little impulsive
This is gonna sound
A little insane
I know you don't know me yet
But you and I
We will be together

I know, I know, I sound
Like I'm on drugs
But listen to me now
When I say

That ever since when I first saw you
Sitting on your car outside
You asked for a cigarette
I couldn't stop staring
At your eyes

Ever since when I first saw you
Looking bored in that plastic chair
With the lights of the office
Around you
Those blond streaks
They look so pretty
In your black hair

You look cool and alternative
With that disaffected stare
You want people to think
That you just don't care

Hey you can be with me
'cause I just might be the one
Who will treat you like you're perfect
Who will always make you come

You can be with me
I will always let you win
I will never be like those other guys
I will never be your
Unemployed boyfriend

This is gonna sound
A little bit out there
This is gonna sound
A little insane
But I keep having the same dream
That you will
Be the mother of my children

I heard you sleep with that
Obnoxious guy
I know he is in that famous band
You look so sad when you
Are with him
I never see him reach
To hold your hand

You can be with me
Yes I will treat you like a queen
I will go to all those
Chick flick movies
That I really don't want to see

You can be with me
No I will never let you down
I will never make out
With your girlfriend
When I know you're not around

You can be with me
Yeah I just might be the one
Who will treat you like you're special
I will always make you come

You can be with me
I will always let you win
I will never be like those other guys
I will never be like those other guys!
I will never be your
Unemployed boyfriend

General CommentI am surprised nobody got it.

It is about the guy who hit on his wife and eventually stole her away from Art.

Art is the guy in the gamous band.

The song is from the perverse perspective of the guy hitting on his wife.

General CommentUmmm... does anyone know who the girl is at the beginning and end of this song ?? She sounds just like the girl at the beginning of "seperation" by colorfinger (Art's Band before everclear).
Oh, and yeah this is of of course, a great song. (but really, aren't they all?)

General CommentThis song is about a girl Art wish he had talked to once when he walked into an unemployment office. But personally I think he was looking at a picture of Craig when he wrote it. That part where he says "Those blonde streaks in your black hair." or the part "you asked me for a cigarette"

General CommentCraig, it was "Those blonde steaks look so pretty in your black hair" so i doubt it unless he is gay

General CommentIf i did that to some girl in the job centre she would call the security.

One of those stories that only work in Hollywood or, in this case, pop music.

Good for a daydream though. We've all thought about stuff like that.

General CommentUm first off, this is NOT what girls want.

Penny, I would just love to see a bum rush up to you and your friends while you are walking past a liquor store telling you that he is going to impregnate you and you are going to be the father of his child. If you had mace you wouldn't hesitate to use it and if you say otherwise your just lying.

    With that being said... :)

It's about one of two things... either it's literal and it's about a girl Art met outside of an unemployment office in the past that he wishes he would have had the confidence to ask out...

The less literal intrepertation. It's about the guy that Art wishes he was in his own marriage. Letting her pick the movies, not being that "obnoxious guy in the famous band" that his wife sleeps with. Being able to always be there for his little girl and wife, being able to be there to hold her hand.

I don't know, I think that is more what the song is about, but of course there are always dozens of ways to look into songs like this.

General Commentlol, yeah i agree this literally wouldn't be what a girl wants, that'd be creepy.. but like the song and the feelings and the way he feels about the girl is what a girl wants.

This song is sweet. And I love it.

General Commentthis song is my absolute favorite everclear song ever!
I think art is talking about how love doesn't always have to and often doesn't make sense, you CAN love someone completely irrationally without knowing anything about them. I think it's also about how people are often too AFRAID TO TAKE CHANCES!
