The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
My home
Is a girl with eyes like wishing wells
I'm not alone
But I'm still lone, lonely
When I was young
Always go below the midnight sun
Those days are done
But I'm still glowing
Ooh la la la la la
Let's live in the moment
Come back Sunday morning
A lie, oh well
When you're gone
Goodbye, so long, farewell
Ooh la la la la la
Let's live in the moment
Come back Sunday morning
With that soul to sell
When you're gone
Goodbye, so long, farewell
My home
Is a girl who can't wait for time to tell
God only knows
We don't need history
When your family
Swinging from the branches of a tree
God only knows
We don't need ghost stories
Ooh la la la la la
Let's live in the moment
Come back Sunday morning
A lie, oh well
When you're gone
Goodbye, so long, farewell
Ooh la la la la la
Let's live in the moment
Come back Sunday morning
With that soul to sell
When you're gone
Goodbye, so long, farewell
Ooh I can't believe it
Nothing's gonna comfort me now
Ooh I can't believe it
Nothing's gonna comfort me now
Ooh la la la la la
Let's live in the moment
Come back Sunday morning
A lie, oh well
When you're gone
Goodbye, so long, farewell
Ooh la la la la la
Let's live in the moment
Come back Sunday morning
With that soul to sell
When you're gone
Goodbye, so long, farewell
Oh my god I can't believe my eyes
Wake up everybody you know
Come and watch the garden grow
I'll see you when you get there
Oh my god I can't believe my eyes
Wake up everybody you know
Come and watch the garden grow
I'll see you when you get there
I'll see you when you get there
I'll see you when you get there

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
Just A Little Lovin'

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
My home ( my home here on this earthly prison planet) Is a girl with eyes like wishing wells (is in darkness) I'm not alone (we are ALL ONE) But I'm still lone, lonely (but I am stuck in this individual experience of myself in a negative light in this +/- polarity experience, and it's lonely/lonely yearning for Oneness) When I was young ( before I was cast out, sin found in me) Always go below the midnight sun (I was in the endless Light) [midnight sun happens at the universal poles, sun rises and sets without the darkness, beautiful sunset colors!]. Those days are done (sentenced to remain here until it's time) But I'm still glowing ( because there's still Light in me, and hope for me)
Ooh la la la la la Let's live in the moment (Think about each and EVERY thing you do! ALL your actions have a +/- effect! ) Come back Sunday morning (Michael Archangel, also teaching Angel) ( Sunday is his day of the week, his are the colors of the sunset, Prince of Greek to come in end times-?, Greek god of planets:Helios[Sun], Adonis/sol [god of beauty and desire], Apollo[god of light], his note is c [lots of C#m in this song]) With that soul to sell (YOU decide who gets it/ your soul, +/-) When you're gone (when the Light is gone, when the end comes) Goodbye, so long, farewell (it's gonna be too late)
My home ( together in ONENESS, ) Is a girl who can't wait for time to tell (WE'RE waiting for YOU, and we're tired!) God only knows ( if you could see from another point of view other than your own) We don't need history (you wouldn't need me to tell you) When your family ( "family"[-illuminati]/bloodline chosen by God to rule, burdened, [Mathew 23] OBSERVE WHAT THEY DO BUT DO NOT DO IT YOURSELF....taking about NEGATIVE!!!) Swinging from the branches of a tree ( stuck in this primitive experience, forced to seek negative ) God only knows (trust me) We don't need ghost stories(you wouldn't believe me if I told you)
Ooh la la la la la Let's live in the moment (Think about each and EVERY thing you do! ALL your actions have a +/- effect! ) Come back Sunday morning (Michael Archangel, also teaching Angel) ( Sunday is his day of the week, his are the colors of the sunset, Prince of Greek to come in end times-?, Greek god of planets:Helios[Sun], Adonis/sol [god of beauty and desire], Apollo[god of light], his note is c [lots of C#m in this song]) A lie, oh well. ( most people's attitudes nowadays but EVERY lie matters, ALL negative matters,YOU decide who gets it/ your soul, +/- be POSITIVE.) When you're gone (when the Light is gone, when the end comes) Goodbye, so long, farewell (it's gonna be too late)Ooh I can't believe it ( why aren't you doing something? You're running out of time) Nothing's gonna comfort me now ( I'm so sad for you, for me, WE- for until each ONE of you change and live positively in the Light, WE can never truly be ONE! )
Ooh la la la la la Let's live in the moment Come back Sunday morning With that soul to sell When you're gone Goodbye, so long, farewell
Oh my god I can’t believe my eyes (I can't believe you STILL choose negative) Wake up everybody you know( open your eyes to the truth, and wake up!!!) Come and watch the garden grow ( garden of souls) I’ll see you when you get there (I'm [we collective] there waiting!
Oh my god I can’t believe my eyes Wake up everybody you know Come and watch the garden grow I’ll see you when you get there I’ll see you when you get there I’ll see you when you get there
@unknownONE Nice try, but the band themselves have said that this song’s meaning is actually a jab at religion, begging the need to “Live in the Moment” - opposing wasting your current life striving entry into a fantastical man-made afterlife that does not truly exist. If you actually listen to all the band’s albums, you’ll quickly realize they promote their secular viewpoints in many songs. It’s time to snap-out of all adult fairytales and do something positive for humanity with the one & only life you know to exist.
@unknownONE - I don't think so. PTM rejects religion. See my comment above.<br />
Portugal. The Man is not religious. They don't believe in the Bible and other nonsensical mythology, thus the lines:
When your family Swinging from the branches of a tree God only knows We don't need ghost stories We are primates who evolved (swinging from the branches), not creatures made by some fictional deity. The Jesus myth is also dissed: "We don't need ghost stories."
PTM recognizes the harm done by idiotic patriarchal monotheisms like Christianity, and they're declaring that they don't buy it. This theme is seen in other songs and lyrics, such as when they sing: Don't pray for us We don't need no modern Jesus To roll with us The only rule we need is never Giving up The only faith we have is faith in us.
This song is clearly another rejection of religion -- we've all got much better things to do on Sunday morning than listen to lies and fiction from moronic preachers. Amen! (Pun intended.)
