[Verse 1]
Codex of doom
From a deep catacomb
A dusty old volume of lore
Hidden within this annul of sin
Confounding a doctrine of sphere
Science has lied
Since the dawn of mankind
This world is a fragment of fore
Three thousand years of deception must end
Free from the shackles of time

[Pre-Chorus 1]
Contact your own convolution
Exposing mathematical flaws
Gone with sedition and onward with truth
Lay waste to the doctrine of law

[Chorus]
Ride, into the storm
To the end of the world
(Under the sign of the [?] of time)
Ride, into the storm
Set fire to the church
(The truth will be told and the circle unfolds)
Ride, into the storm
To end of the world
(What must we do to [?])
Ride, into the storm
Defying the times
(We'll set to sea with a vengeance for riding the storm)
To the end of the world

Perspective is why
The Earth and the sky
Converge into one
This can't be undone
As sure as hell
Lies deep down below
Around the Earth
The sun doth go

{Verse 2]
Haunted by greed
Of a perilous quest
The nightmare revolves in my mind
A vision unfolds
The mission is clear
Set sail to the end of the world
[?] my voyage begins
Westward into the unknown
Once and for all, the truth will be told
Heliocentric device

[Pre-Chorus 2]
Empirical revolution
Fighting the fraudulent [?]
Over the apex and to the unknown
Cross the terrestrial barge

[Chorus]
Ride, into the storm
To the end of the world
(Under the sign of the [?] of time)
Ride, into the storm
Set fire to the church
(The truth will be told and the circle unfolds)
Ride, into the storm
To end of the world
(What must we do to [?])
Ride, into the storm
Defying the times
(We'll set to sea with a vengeance for riding the storm)
To the end of the world

[Bridge]
Cross the permanent
Over the edge of darkness
Cronos guide the way
To Elysian fields

Cross the permanent
Over the edge of darkness
Cronos guide the way
From the Elysian fields

Face reality
Shatter the false deception
[?]
On the true nature of time

Face reality
Shatter the false deception
[?]
On the true nature of time

[Guitar solo]

Ode to the fires of chaos
Ode to the brightness of time
Onwards, [?]
Glory of all of the sight
The price of the human existence
Paid with the sins of the past
Chaos, spiraling in
[?] shall be conquered at last

[Chorus]
Ride, into the storm
To the end of the world
(Under the sign of the [?] of time)
Ride, into the storm
Set fire to the church
(The truth will be told and the circle unfolds)
Ride, into the storm
To end of the world
(What must we do to [?])
Ride, into the storm
Defying the times
(We'll set to sea with a vengeance for riding the storm)
To the end of the world

Song MeaningThis song appears to be a carefully organized reference to Otis Eugene Ray's 1997 self-published alternate theory of everything, dubbed "time cube". Ray’s theory at its core claims that all current sciences and academic institutions are part of a secret worldwide conspiracy designed to cover up the truth: that the earth is in fact a cube and not a sphere.

Timecube elaborates that due to the cube shape of the planet, time and other aspects of physics function differently than we have been taught. Each rotation of the cube yields four days, not one (one for each side, not counting the top and bottom). The consequences of this deception are expansive, but the bottom line is that we completely misunderstand the nature of time as a result. The many mentions of alternate or new features of time in the song are a function of this. ("Free from the shackles of time... Taste enlightenment of the true nature of time")

The song begins with the pirates finding “A dusty old volume of lore” which describes them discovering the theory of timecube for the first time. Being found “In a deep catacomb” implies that the information was deeply buried and obstructed by the global conspiracy. This manuscript is noted as "Confounding a doctrine of sphere" leading the pirates to learn the dark and secret truth: that "Science has lied since the dawn of mankind, this world is a fragment of four". The document is later described as “Conjectural convolution”. If you have ever read the actual text of Ray’s theory, I’m sure you will agree that this is an appropriate description.

Despite the highly irreverent and overall absurd tone of the overwhelming majority of Alestorm's work, this song is incredibly well written, bordering on poetic. The concept of the classic hero/quest is a central theme in much of Alestorm's music. This song both depicts an actual quest, with images of ship voyaging into the oceans and to the physical edge of the planet ("The mission is clear, set sail to the end of the world") as well as a metaphorical and academic quest to search for knowledge. The next line (one of the best in the song) "Wielding the timecube my voyage begins westward into the unknown" applies to both. It conjures a distinct image of a pirate physically wielding some mystical relic or artifact (an image consistent with the general ethos of Alestorm) but also carries a metaphorical meaning, that bearing the knowledge of timecube theory, the pirates have embarked on an academic journey of truth and discovery in the hopes that "Once and for all, the truth will be told". They are "Armed with sedition and armored with truth" which describes their intellectual preparedness to defend their theory in an academic context, but denotes it in a way that creates imagery consistent with a physical quest, bearing arms and wearing armor to prepare for future battles.

As the chorus details, this quest will eventually lead the pirates all the way "to the end of the world” and that they will be “under the sign of the cube of time" (that is, guided by the wisdom of timecube theory). The recurring line “Ride into the storm” captures both the physical challenges and dangers of actually sailing a ship into a violent storm, but also denotes the weight of attempting to overcome the entire united academic and scientific community of the world. They are the large faceless “storm” that looms over and tries to sink the comparatively tiny pirate ship; a force so large and powerful that it seems the pirates could never overcome them. Their quest can only be accomplished by surviving the storm and reaching the edge of the planet, so they resolve to persist, and “set sail to the end of the world”.

The lyrics of the bridge make up both the climax and the crux of the song. The final verse describes the pirate ship physically falling over the edge of the planet (“Over the apex and to the unknown, 'cross the terrestrial verge"). After the chorus plays, the pirates’ fate is revealed, as they have entered a new realm, both physically, by sailing off the world, and intellectually as their theories have finally come to fruition, and they can observe the true nature of the world ("Cross the firmament, over the edge of darkness"). As they fall into the unknown, the pirates have entered both a physical and intellectual region that is beyond their current knowledge or understanding, but after overcoming their surprise and fear ("Kronos, Guide the way through the Elysian fields") they realize that their timecube theory was correct, and now they have proved its validity beyond a doubt ("Face reality, shatter the false deception, Taste enlightenment of the true nature of time"). The pirates have beaten the storm and understand the true nature of physics, “entropy conquered at last”.

Or at least that’s my interpretation, lol idk
