In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
Same lips red, same eyes blue
Same white shirt, couple more tattoos
But it's not you and it's not me
Tastes so sweet, looks so real
Sounds like somethin' that I used to feel
But I can't touch what I see
We're not who we used to be
We're not who we used to be
We're just two ghosts standin' in the place of you and me
Tryin' to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat
The fridge light washes this room white
Moon dances over your good side
This was all we used to need
Tongue-tied like we've never known
Tellin' those stories we already told
'Cause we don't say what we really mean
We're not who we used to be
We're not who we used to be
We're just two ghosts standin' in the place of you and me
We're not who we used to be
We're not who we used to be
We're just two ghosts swimmin' in a glass half-empty
Tryin' to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat
We're not who we used to be
We're not who we used to be
We're just two ghosts standin' in the place of you and me
We're not who we used to be
We don't see what we used to see
We're just two ghosts swimmin' in a glass half-empty
Tryin' to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat
Tryin' to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat
I'm just tryin' to remember how it feels to have a heartbeat
Same white shirt, couple more tattoos
But it's not you and it's not me
Tastes so sweet, looks so real
Sounds like somethin' that I used to feel
But I can't touch what I see
We're not who we used to be
We're not who we used to be
We're just two ghosts standin' in the place of you and me

We're not who we used to be

The two are back together after a long period apart, and get around to enjoying a bunch of fun activities while rekindling the flames of their romance.
Obviously based off of Harrys relationship with Louis. "same lips red, same eyes blue. same white shirt, couple more tattoos" :)) also its obvious that through the years they hide more things and try to not be as close in public, its sad really.
