I wrote my letter, yeah I wrote my letter today
The little letter gonna have to go a long, long way
I miss my lover, yeah I write a letter everyday
The only thing is that my lover don't ever write me

Yeah...

Ohhhhh, I want a letter to read

All that I had
All that I ever loved is lost in the past
I want a letter, want a letter, want a letter to
Read all alone, me and your memory before I let go
I want a letter, want a letter, want a letter to read

I wait all day by the mailbox on the street
The postman don't stop he just walk past me
Maybe it's the way that is meant to be, yeah
Maybe it's the way I'm supposed to grieve

Yeah...

Ohhhhh, I want a letter to

All that I had
All that I ever loved is lost in the past
I want a letter, want a letter, want a letter to
Read all alone, me and your memory before I let go
I want a letter, want a letter, want a letter to read

Love is just a syllable, and pain's the same
So is it just a little overkill writing the days away?

I wrote my lover, yeah I wrote my lover today
The little letter gonna have to go a long, long way

Ohhhh, I want a letter, want a letter, want a letter
Ohhhh, I want a letter, want a letter, want a letter

All that I had (all that I hd)
All that I ever loved is lost in the past (lost in the past)
I want a letter, want a letter, want a letter to
Read all alone (read all alone)
I want a letter, want a letter, want a letter to
Before I let go (before I let go)
I want a letter, want a letter, want a letter to read

General CommentI made an account today just so I could reply to this with the meaning of the song LOL.

Earlier today I was watching an interview with Ryan and Molly talking a little bit about "No Culture" (this interview took place some time before the album was released) and they were talking a little about the meaning of 'Letter'.

From my understanding, while it seems like this song is about unrequited love between this guy and his ex-lover, Ryan said that it was actually about the narrator kind of self-reflecting on his past life and "romanticizing the past" to quote from said singer.

I did a little thinking on this (I was pretty confused on the actual meaning considering the lyrics), but I decided to go back and listen to it with this perspective in mind, and it actually does make a little sense the more you think about it.

This guy taking a look back onto his past life, maybe he was happier years ago and his life's grown to be not so happy because some life changing event happened or something, and he's basically begging somebody to give him a chance to experience his past life before he ultimately has to give that up and move on with his life. "All that I ever loved is lost in the past", "me and your memory before I let go", and "So is it just a little overkill writing the days away?" are lines that personally help me to understand Ryan's interpretation better on the song.
