(verse)
I’m sitting down here thinking
Wishing that I could hold her
You feel the winter breezing
You know it’s getting colder
I’ve been trying to let you in but you keep giving me the shoulder
Picking up the pieces and I put them in a folder
Lately I’ve been figuring what it meant
Been trying to spend some time with you but it’s already spent
I’m trying to get back into shape, but I’m already too bent
Yeah God I worry about her when you left you know I already went
Through the good to let you know that things is getting better
I wrote down all my problems and I put them in a letter
I went and talked to god and he said “son you go and you get her”
It’s getting kind of cold out here so you should take my sweater

Oh winter, oh winter, oh winter, oh winter
You’ll miss her, you loved her, you kiss her, oh winter
Oh winter, oh winter, oh winter
You’ll miss her, you loved her, you kiss her, oh winter

(Interlude)
For the short time that we, uhh.., that we were together, it was… it was real and… something I’ll never forget is the way she said “I love you”

(verse)
My past came back to haunt us, like back-ne, it’s so monstrous
Rewind to what we got a fight towards, the same old small stuff
Can you tell me this is love? My mind is all scattered up
Baby I’ll get there in a hurry like blonde girls at Starbucks
You know I tried to paint the scene, maybe all of this is just supposed to be a dream
It’s low and serene and then it’s rapid like Irene
Baby I try to smooth it out just like the head on Mr. clean
Listen I can try and be the perfect guy you’ve always wanted
Agree to all the scary stuff sit back and let it flaunt us
But that wouldn’t be true love baby, can’t we just be honest
Cause it’s not cold outside no more I think the winter’s all done

(chorus)
Oh winter, oh winter, oh winter, oh winter
You’ll miss her, you loved her, you kiss her, oh winter
Oh winter, oh winter, oh winter
You’ll miss her, you loved her, you kiss her, oh winter

    My Interpretation

"I’m sitting down here thinking Wishing that I could hold her" So he obviously is thinking about a specific girl who isn't his. Perhaps they once had a relationship but for now there is none and he has feelings for her. "You feel the winter breezing You know it’s getting colder" He's lonely, it's getting cold in his heart and he needs someone to bring warmth "I’ve been trying to let you in but you keep giving me the shoulder" He's very open and is even letting his guard down on this girl, but for some reason she won't either because she's not ready, is uncomfortable, or maybe is merely uninterested. "Picking up the pieces and I put them in a folder" Much like you store information on a computer in a folder, this guy is storing the memories he has with this girl. This entails that there was a relationship but that it went wrong as there are broken pieces left. "Lately I’ve been figuring what it meant" What did we mean? What were we? Was it real? He's reflecting upon the relationship he had with this girl. "Been trying to spend some time with you but it’s already spent" He wants more time with her, but thats a thing of the past and he can't accept that yet. His time with her is over. "I’m trying to get back into shape, but I’m already too bent" He's trying to get back into the person he was before he met this girl but he's too bent in the way that the relationship affected him too much to ever be the same again. "Yeah God I worry about her when you left you know I already went" Her leaving him caused him to lose his faith in god although I'm not very clear on this line. "Through the good to let you know that things is getting better" He's still talking to god and his faith has since strengthened however here as well I'm not very clear on the lyrics "I wrote down all my problems and I put them in a letter" He spoke all of his issues through prayer and "spoke" to God. "I went and talked to god and he said “son you go and you get her”" He believes he has the divine right to go and try to get this girl back through the strength of god. "It’s getting kind of cold out here so you should take my sweater" It's getting cold, come closer and let's be together. I'm cold but I'll be willing to freeze if it means making you warmer. This translates to I'm broken but I'll give you one of my pieces if it means making you better. "Oh winter, oh winter, oh winter, oh winter" Her absence leaves him cold inside, he's having his own winter but he doesn't say this sadly no, but as a sort of accepting tone to it "You’ll miss her, you loved her, you kiss her, oh winter" 'Boy I'm telling you that when she leaves you'll miss her, but you'll know that you loved her, but for now you'll continue giving her affection' "For the short time that we, uhh.., that we were together, it was… it was real and… something I’ll never forget is the way she said “I love you”" But it felt so real although it wasn't a very long time. And she said she loved me and I thought she meant it. "My past came back to haunt us, like back-ne, it’s so monstrous" Ah ha, maybe this is why she left him. He doesn't have the most sparkly past and it comes back to haunt him just when he thinks its gone (like backne) and it errupts him and he doesn't see it coming cause it's behind him (like backne) and it was all too much for the girl to handle. The girl couldn't stand to see him so hurt and even though she cared deeply she had to take herself out of the situation. "Rewind to what we got a fight towards, the same old small stuff" They fought over stupid things "Can you tell me this is love? My mind is all scattered up" Is this even love? Would love be so toxic? "Baby I’ll get there in a hurry like blonde girls at Starbucks" I don't understand this line "You know I tried to paint the scene, maybe all of this is just supposed to be a dream" He tried to make things seem better than they actually were and things are actually so bad that he can't believe this is reality. "It’s low and serene and then it’s rapid like Irene" Reference to Hurricane Irene, this is describing the relationship as calm when its in the eye of the hurricane but then the storm comes back. "Baby I try to smooth it out just like the head on Mr. clean" He wants to clean things up with her and smooth the rough edges out. "Listen I can try and be the perfect guy you’ve always wanted" Give me another chance "Agree to all the scary stuff sit back and let it flaunt us" Just please accept me for the mess I am please "But that wouldn’t be true love baby, can’t we just be honest" But pretending won't make it real, lets be honest notice how he affectionately calls her baby. He's saying that it won't work out "Cause it’s not cold outside no more I think the winter’s all done" I'm over you, I don't actually need you anymore.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
