"Training Wheels" as written by Melanie Martinez and Scott David Hoffman....
Riding down, riding down
My hand on your seat The whole way round
I carry band-aids on me now
For when your soft hands hit the jagged ground
Wheels aren't even touching the ground
Scared to take them off but they're so worn down
Promise I won't push you straight to the dirt
If you promise me you'll take them off first

Love everything you do
When you call me fucking dumb for the stupid shit I do
I wanna ride my bike with you
Fully undressed, no training wheels left for you
I'll pull them off for you

Love everything you do
When you call me fucking dumb for the stupid shit I do
I wanna ride my bike with you
Fully undressed, no training wheels left for you
I'll pull them off for you

Letting go, letting go
Telling you things you already know
I explode, I explode
Asking you where you want us to go
You've been riding two wheelers all your life
It's not like I'm asking to be your wife
I wanna make you mine, but that's hard to say
Is this coming off in a cheesy way?

Love everything you do
When you call me fucking dumb for the stupid shit I do
I wanna ride my bike with you
Fully undressed, no training wheels left for you
I'll pull them off for you

Love everything you do
When you call me fucking dumb for the stupid shit I do
I wanna ride my bike with you
Fully undressed, no training wheels left for you
I'll pull them off for you

(Everything you do)
(I wanna ride my bike with you)
(No training wheels left for you)

Love everything you do
When you call me fucking dumb for the stupid shit I do
I wanna ride my bike with you
Fully undressed, no training wheels left for you
I'll pull them off for you

Love everything you do
When you call me fucking dumb for the stupid shit I do
I wanna ride my bike with you
Fully undressed, no training wheels left for you
I'll pull them off for you

General CommentThe meaning is obvious, but I just really appreciate how weary it sounds. There's desperation, sadness, and hope all mixed into a vial, and her voice acts as the force softly swishing it around. I'm glad the album has a song like this on it because the rest are tinged with this flavor of bitterness, but instead, this is merely serene and calm. Using training wheels as a metaphor for keeping stagnantly safe in a relationship is also just really clever. Such a melody.

My InterpretationSo basically I think this song is about a boy who's been hurt or "fallen off his bike". and a girl who's always been around to help him and "carries band-aids" for when he gets hurt. The girl is helping him learn how to ride steadily or feel safe in a relationship so that he trusts her. She slowly nurses him back to emotional health to a place where they can be happy with no obstacles. Then they have their first time together because of the lyrics "fully undressed, no training wheels".Such a beautiful song, It's really emotional and meaningful. Thanks again Mel!
