"Mountain at My Gates" as written by and Edwin Congreave Andrew Mears....
I see a mountain at my gates
I see it more and more each day
What i give it takes away
Whether i go or when i stay

I see a mountain at my gates
I see it more and more each day
I see a fire out by the lake
I'll drive my car without the breaks

I see a mountain in my way
It's looming larger by the day
I see a darkness in my fate
I'll drive my car without the breaks

Oh gimme some time
Show me the foothold from which i can climb
Yeah when i feel low
You show me a signpost for where i should go

I see a mountain at my gates
I see it more and more each day
And my desire wears a dark dress
But each day i see you less

Oh gimme some time
Show me the foothold from which i can climb
Yeah when i feel low
You show me a signpost for where i should go

Through lanes and stone rows, black granite, wind blows
Fire lake and far flame go now but come again
Dark clouds gather round will I run or stand my ground?

Oh when I come to climb
Show me the mountain so far behind
Yeah it's farther away
It´s shadow gets smaller day after day

Yeah, gimme my way
Gimme my love
Gimme my choice
You keep me coming around

Gimme my fate
Gimme my lungs
Gimme my voice
You keep me coming around

My InterpretationYour future, obstacles and challenges, and whatever helps you go forward. That challenge you keep putting off will always be right in front of you, waiting for you to overcome it. You just need to start.

My InterpretationThe Mountain is DEATH on the horizon.
I see it ahead, closer and more each day,
Whatever I give to life is only going to this place.
I may as well go ahead without abandon (no brakes)
    - Oh - but there may be hope...
The mountain goes to the rear view mirror.

General CommentThis song is about getting help recovering from addiction.

The mountain is the subject of that addiction. In the first verse, it seems insurmountable "getting larger every day" and continues so until the chorus of help: "give me a foothold/signpost" and gradually it gets better until it's clear where he's going and sees the mountain and its shadow getting smaller as he moves on.

General CommentSo having gone through a break up recently after 8 years I feel obsessed with this song.

Every song means what it means to an individual, for me the mountain represents the changes my life is going to take and the fear and uncertainty that brings.

The help referenced to me, means the support network I have around me, when I'm feeling down they help me to climb up the foot holes etc.

Emo - sad whatever, each to their own
