"Mad Hatter" as written by Melanie Martinez, Jeremy Dussolliet, Bryan Fryzel and Aaron Kleinstub....
My friends don't walk, they run
Skinny dip in rabbit holes for fun
Popping, popping balloons with guns, getting high off helium
We paint white roses red
Each shade from a different person's head
This dream, dream is a killer
Getting drunk with the blue caterpillar

I'm peeling the skin off my face
'Cause I really hate being safe
The normals, they make me afraid
The crazies, they make me feel sane

I'm nuts, baby, I'm mad
The craziest friend that you've ever had
You think I'm psycho, you think I'm gone
Tell the psychiatrist something is wrong
Over the bend, entirely bonkers
You like me best when I'm off my rocker
Tell you a secret, I'm not alarmed
So what if I'm crazy? The best people are
All the best people are crazy, all the best people are

Where is my prescription?
Doctor, doctor please listen
My brain is scattered
You can be Alice, I'll be the mad hatter

I'm peeling the skin off my face
'Cause I really hate being safe
The normals, they make me afraid
The crazies, they make me feel sane

I'm nuts, baby, I'm mad,
The craziest friend that you've ever had
You think I'm psycho, you think I'm gone
Tell the psychiatrist something is wrong
Over the bend, entirely bonkers
You like me best when I'm off my rocker
Tell you a secret, I'm not alarmed
So what if I'm crazy? The best people are

You think I'm crazy, you think I'm gone
So what if I'm crazy? All the best people are
And I think you're crazy too, I know you're gone
That's probably the reason that we get along

I'm nuts, baby, I'm mad,
The craziest friend that you've ever had
You think I'm psycho, you think I'm gone
Tell the psychiatrist something is wrong
Over the bend, entirely bonkers
You like me best when I'm off my rocker
Tell you a secret, I'm not alarmed
So what if I'm crazy? The best people are
All the best people are crazy, all the best people are
All the best people are crazy, all the best people are

General CommentI just want to compare this song to Taylor Swift's "Wonderland," because they both are based of Alice in Wonderland.
This song is more creepy and dark than Taylor's, as are most of Melanie Martinez's songs. But I like that this takes on a dark version of Wonderland, because most people make it into a fantasy.

Basically all of these lines are references somehow to Alice in Wonderland, except the "I'm peeling the skin off my face" line confuses me because I don't remember Alice peeling her skin off. Maybe the caterpillar going through metamorphosis?

General CommentThis song is about Cry Baby going crazy because of everything she's been through.

General CommentBased on the lyrics, it's pretty self-explanatory. The whole song is really about her being crazy and how that's NOT A BAD THING.

"Skinny dip in rabbit holes for fun"
"I'm peeling the skin off my face"
"Getting drunk with the blue caterpillar"

All of those lines are dangerous things to do, but she doesn't care. She outright says "'Cause I really hate being safe." Crazy people, or insane people, are nuts (or mad) and don't want to be normal.

Compared to Alice in Wonderland, she doesn't want to be the normal Alice. She wants to be the Mad Hatter, the crazy insane free-spirited guy that goes through life as an insane person.
