Broken down heart
You were always down for it, from the start
When my worlds were watching you

The stars had come out to shine
And you were holding me
If I could ever be this fine
You would be holding me
But I could never hold your mind
The hole in your heart
And if we would go back instead
You and I

The stars had come out that night
And you were loving me
Why it couldn't be this time
Maybe it was you and me
I could never let you go
Too weak to hold on
And if we would go back instead
You and I

Fall so hard, fall so
You and I, you and I, you and I
We fall so hard
Fall so you and I, you and I, you and I
We fall so hard
Fall so you and I, you and I, you and I
We fall so hard
Fall so you and I, you and I, you and I

You were holding me
We were at the start
You could not hold on
My love was leaving me
I can't help myself
We were all too close
You and I

Oh, oh, we couldn't hold on
Oh, oh, we couldn't hold on
Before we let it all
Oh, oh, we couldn't hold on

Song Fact“You and I is a very unique song on the record for us, and it is one of the oldest creations on the album. The song first originated in a home studio up in the Dandenong Ranges in late 2011. Sean Kenihan (Moog) and Zach were left to their own devices up there one day with some studio equipment and the whole first half of the tune came together really quickly, quirky synth solo and all.

Unlike the previous two songs on the album, this one was then progressed totally in the studio, all programmed beats, synths and vocals. The song is clearly about a breakup or a lost love. I can’t recall if Zach was going through something similar at the time, but the spontaneous emotion in the lyrics really held the demo together from the start.

No matter what we did, even with all the pro recording gear we could source, we couldn’t seem to catch the same conviction that vocal performance has.”
