"I Am a River" as written by and Oliver Hawkins Pat Smear....
There is a secret
I found a secret
Behind a Soho door

There is a reason
I found a reason
Beneath the subway floor

I found the water
The devils water
And walked along its shore

Is that what you want?

The channel’s changing
The heart is racing
From voices on a wire

The soul is yearning
The cold is burning
The ember starts a fire

Can we recover
Love for each other
The measure of your life

Is that what you want?
Is that what you really want

A river
A river
A river running under ground

A river
A river
Is that what you want?
Is that what you really want?

I! I! I am a river

Is that what you want
Is that what you really want

I! I! I am a river

I am a river!

I! I! I am a river

General CommentHe, he, he is a river. This song is about Dave Grohl being a river. What more can you say?

    Great song, by the way!

Song MeaningIn an interview to Jimmy Fallon's show, Dave explained that the song is about an underground river that used to stream under New York City - "Minetta Creek". He says: "I thought that its a beautiful idea that something natural and pre-historic runs underneath NYC. Maybe we are all connected by something like that."

General CommentThis song is nothing more than about the studio called the" Magic Shop" in NYC they recorded the song in in . There is a river that flows underneath it. All the songs on Sonic Highways are about the cities history in which they recorded each song in. Nothing more. Nothing less.
