"Divide" as written by and Michael Hanmer Sara Taylor....
Tides of glass, return to ash.
In the dawn, we follow the path away from the sun.
Shadows cast in wake of the past.
Reaching out, into the dark and out of the light.

Crawling underneath our feet,
A river running black and green
From the heart of the gallows tree,
Where the future and our fate
Will bleed into the world below.

Stone to bear the mountain stairs.
In the night, we dance with our devils and dine with the snakes.
The dead will stare in joy and despair
Rising up, away from the earth, into the clouds.

From the eye of the Graeae we stole,
A truth that we can’t unknow.
Spinning on the threads they sew
In a river of the tears that flow into the world below.

Over, under, threads of fate.
Weaving patterns, soon and late.
As in this life, so in all things
The end result, the action brings.

The fates will divide in three.
A sight that we can’t unsee.
We’re falling to our hands and knees
As the past and the future bleed into the world below.

General CommentI can't believe nobody has commented on any of the new songs from Superstition....
TBM is like one of, if not THE, best goth bands there is, PERIOD and NOONE has anything to write??
Anyway, this one is a little confusing to be honest, because the name is Divide, but the word is not in the lyrics anywhere. Despite that there is some undeniable imagery here, specifically the reference to Graeae, the mythological sisters who share an eye being stolen, but I am finding it somewhat difficult to follow the lyrics anywhere here....
In any case, the song JAMZ, and the album JAMZ, and they deserve some attention for yet another superb release!!

General CommentJust want to jump in and say that "Divide" references the present, which is the divide between the past and the future referenced through the song.

There's also many references to a "divide" through the song, such as "into the dark and out of the light", "black and green", "joy and despair", "soon and late", "over, under", "the earth and the clouds"

My Interpretation"Tides of glass, return to ash.
In the dawn, we follow the path away from the sun.
Shadows cast in wake of the past.
Reaching out, into the dark and out of the light."

Is this referring to the theme of moving on? Moving out of the light of day might mean something like.. not being ready to face the truth, being too comfortable in the past, in the dark? "Tides of glass, return to ash", might mean tides as in waves of emotion/change, going from something reflective and sharp (glass is able to cut you), burning away to ash, which is soft and harmless after the fire. Burning the past away?

    "Crawling underneath our feet,
A river running black and green
From the heart of the gallows tree,
Where the future and our fate
Will bleed into the world below."

Is this black and green river the 'world below'?. Seems like a nice symbolism of the underworld. And the gallows tree is a tree where people are hanged isnt it? So that makes sense.

"Stone to bear the mountain stairs.
In the night, we dance with our devils and dine with the snakes.
The dead will stare in joy and despair
Rising up, away from the earth, into the clouds."

So they've gone away from the light of day, sheltering in the mountains where at night they relive the past again, dance with their devils and dine with the snakes, meaning they embrace the evil at night, and this is what theyre comfortable doing. The dead watch over them, with mixed feelings as they move on to the heavens.

"From the eye of the Graeae we stole,
A truth that we can’t unknow.
Spinning on the threads they sew
In a river of the tears that flow into the world below."

So instead of facing the truth, they stole it from the Graeae, that mythical creature. So then they accidently found another way into that river of the underworld? when they were trying to avoid it maybe? fate still lead them there. Spinning on the threads might mean, they are just puppets to the higher forces, like the Graeae, and cant actually control their life now that the stole the truth.

    "Over, under, threads of fate.
    Weaving patterns, soon and late.
As in this life, so in all things
The end result, the action brings."

So its talking about the choices we make leading us to our eventual fate, even if we avoid it, it will come sooner or later.

"The fates will divide in three.
A sight that we can’t unsee.
We’re falling to our hands and knees
As the past and the future bleed into the world below."

They can't control their lives anymore, the Divide in three means past, present, future. It's all come together, their past is gone, the present theyve reached and their fate/future is ahead. They fall to their hands and knees as they cant stand up against it anymore.
