Cheated and lied, broken so bad
You made a vow, never get mad
You played the game, though it's unfair
They're all the same, who can compare?
First you lose trust, then you get worried
Night after night, bar after club
Dropping like flies, who woke you up?
On the front lawn, sprinklers turn on
It's not your house, where'd you go wrong?
First you get hurt, then you feel sorry

Flying like a cannonball, falling to the earth
Heavy as a feather when you hit the dirt
How am I the lucky one
I do not deserve to wait around forever when you were there first

First you get hurt, then you feel sorry
There comes a time in a short life
Turn it around, get a rewrite
Call it a dark night of the soul
Ticking of clocks, gravity's pull
First you get close, then you get worried

Flying like a cannonball, falling to the earth
Heavy as a feather when you hit the dirt
How am I the lucky one, I do not deserve
To wait around forever when you were there first
First you get hurt, then you feel sorry

You're growing silent, the silent treatment
It's not inviting now, but don't deny what you meant
You get excited, you get excited
You got a feeling, oh, at least you can pretend
You wanna light it, you wanna light it
You wanna light it now, the candle from both ends
You get excited, you get excited

Flying like a cannonball, falling to the earth
Heavy as a feather when you hit the dirt
How am I the lucky one?
I do not deserve to wait around forever when you were there first
Flying like a cannonball, falling to the earth
Heavy as a feather when, you hit the dirt
How am I the lucky one?
I do not deserve to wait around forever when you were there first

First you get close, then you get worried
First you get close, then you get worried
First you get close, then you get worried
First you get close, then you get worried

You wanna light it, you wanna light it
You wanna light it now, the candle from both ends
You wanna light it, you wanna light it
You wanna light it now, the candle from both ends

    My Interpretation

After watching the video and listening to the lyrics, this is what I thought the song meant. After doing this, I realized there were two videos. The video I saw was from a woman's perspective. I like that the lyrics don't give a pronoun in order to not suggest a particular side, so that both genders could feel a connection to it.

“Cheated and lied, broken so bad You made a vow, never get mad You'll play the game, though it’s unfair They’re all the same, who can compare? First you lose trust, then you get worried Night after night, bar after club Dropping like flies, who woke you up? On the front lawn, sprinklers turn on It’s not your house, where’d you go wrong? First you get hurt, then you feel sorry”

The girl finds out that the man cheated and lied in some way (not necessarily being unfaithful) and she started to see how he is broken. The girl makes a vow that she isn’t going to get mad about it. She continues with the relationship even though it’s not fair. She thinks the fights are all the same but no one compares to him, so she stays with him. She becomes worried and begins to not trust him. The man wakes up and realizes what happened and goes to apologize and everything “seems” to be back to normal (from the video).

“First you get hurt, then you feel sorry There comes a time in a short life Turn it around, get a rewrite Call it a dark night of the soul Ticking of clocks, gravity’s pull First you get close, then you get worried” The girl is telling the man that his first reaction is to feel hurt himself, but after realizing it was him, he begins feeling sorry. She is telling him that he needs to turn his life around because life is short. She is trying to convince him that if he changes things around he could have a rewrite to his life – a second chance. She is also telling him that the clock is ticking on their relationship. She feels the strong pull of love and gets close to him, but then gets worried when she sees his true colors and begins to second guess staying in the relationship.

“Flying like a cannonball, falling to the earth Heavy as a feather when, you hit the dirt How am I the lucky one?, I do not deserve To wait around forever when, you were there first First you get hurt, then you feel sorry” She says that it seemed, in the beginning, that the relationship was flying (going well), but once things hit the fan, she falls hard. There is some word play switching around that a cannon falls hard and a feather can seem like it is flying to show how confusing the feels can be. She thought in the beginning she was the lucky one, but then realizes she doesn’t deserve to wait around forever. She fell for him because he showed interested and was invested in the relationship first.

“You’re going silent, the silent treatment It’s not inviting now, don’t deny what you meant You get excited, you get excited You got a feeling, oh, at least you can pretend You wanna light it, you wanna light it You wanna light it now, the candle from both ends You get excited, you get excited” He is no longer showing her the same love, attention, and commitment as he had in the beginning. She continues to say he went silent and is giving her the silent treatment. What he said and by him giving her the silent treatment can’t be denied because he means it. It is confusing, so she goes out and begins to party- trying to be excited about other new possibilities. She tries to get excited, but can’t, so she at least pretends. She wants to light the feeling of being excited to move on to something new, but also wants to light (keep) the feeling of the good she remembers from the beginning of the relationship so she wants to stay.

He ends up regretting his actions after seeing how she is moving on (part of the video) and begins feeling sorry again. She slams the door shut (frustrated to be “pulled by gravity” towards him when she can’t feel excited about moving on). He then is happy (he smirks when she gets out of the car) because she ends up going back home with him because he has that control over her or because he is happy to have a second chance with her that he is happy not to have lost her.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.
