"Sleep Like a Baby Tonight" as written by Adam Clayton, Dave Evans, Paul David Hewson and Larry Mullen....
Morning, your toast
Your tea and sugar
Read about a politician’s lover
Go through the day
Like a knife through butter
Why don’t you
You dress in the colours of forgiveness
Your eyes as red as Christmas
Purple robes are folded on the kitchen chair

You’re gonna sleep like a baby tonight
In your dreams everything is alright
Tomorrow dawns like someone else’s suicide
You’re gonna sleep like a baby tonight

Dreams
It’s a dirty business, dreaming
Where there is silence and not screaming
Where there’s no daylight
There’s no healing, no no

You’re gonna sleep like a baby tonight
In your dreams everything is alright
Tomorrow dawns like a suicide
But you’re gonna sleep like a baby tonight

Hope, hope is where the door is
When the church is where the war is
Where no one can feel no one else’s pain

You’re gonna sleep like a baby tonight
In your dreams everything is alright
Tomorrow dawns like a suicide
But you’re gonna sleep like a baby tonight
Sleep like a baby tonight
Like a bird, your dreams'll take flight
Like St. Francis covered in light
You’re gonna sleep like a baby tonight

General CommentThis was the only song on the new album that I immediately fell in love with. The rest grew on me gradually, and I now have several new favorites, but this is still tops.
The lyrics and music are exactly the kind of thing I was hoping for with the entire album.
Interesting to note that, while Danger Mouse worked on several tracks that made the cut, this is apparently the only one that he alone worked on. Makes me wonder what the other songs would have sounded like with only his direction.

Song MeaningI heard a tip on this one and it makes complete sense. This is Bono voicing the conscience of a defrocked pedophile priest/bishop. The priest goes about his day but in his head lurks evil contemplation. Bono reinventing himself as mephisto again. Absolutely genius. Zeitgest hook line and sinker for the scandals of the church/churches, captures everything succinctly in a pop song. Wow. Dangermouse's production and Edge's solo make this absolutely spine tinglingly good/chilling. Someone else's suicide, someone else's pain, red eyes, maybe this evil character is going to knock himself off. They went very deep here but for me too it was the best rack, now that I uncovered the meaning it's tragic. Agree with the previous poster, dirtylemons, 100%.

General CommentVery dark. Although I would have preferred a less electronically-enhanced production style (and that goes for the rest of the record as well) this is an absolute winner. U2's creepiest song, perhaps? A lullaby sung to a pedophile priest. Shivers!
