"My Favourite Faded Fantasy" as written by and Damien Rice....
You could be my favourite taste
To touch my tongue
I know someone who could serve me love
But it wouldn’t fill me up

You could have my favourite face
And favourite name
I know someone who could play the part
But it wouldn’t be the same

No it wouldn’t be the same
No it wouldn’t be the same
No it wouldn’t be the same
As with you

You could be my favourite place
I’ve ever been
I got lost in your willingness
To dream within the dream

You could be my favourite faded fantasy
I’ve hung my happiness upon what it all could be

And what it all could be
What it all, what it all could be
What it all, what it all could be
With you
What it all, what it all could be
What it all, what it all could be
What it all, what it all could be
With you

You could hold the secrets that save
Me from myself
I could love you more than love could
All the way from hell

You could be my poison, my cross,
My razor blade
I could love you more than life
If I wasn’t so afraid

Of what it all could be
What it all, what it all could be
Of what it all, what it all could be
With you
What it all, what it all could be
Of what it all, what it all could be
What it all, what it all could be
With you

Loved is all that bloomed
Always what you did
Never let someone go or they
I ain't never loved like you

'Cause I’ve never loved, I've never loved
I’ve never loved, loved loved like you
I’ve never loved
I’ve never loved
I’ve never loved
I’ve never loved
I’ve never loved like you
I’ve never loved
I’ve never loved

My InterpretationI believe this song is pretty self-explanatory, I think he's saying that there is this person that he's in love with (and was previously in a relationship with) that could (for want of a better phrase) make his life better. He's afraid though because of what's happened in the past and also because he’s aware that he could be building it up in his head more than it is. He's now with someone else who just doesn't quite live up to them. He finds himself fantasising about what it would be like to be with them again however he finds that the person that he's singing about is now a faded memory that he’s been fantasised in his mind he can't get rid of.

This man is just the best song writer I've heard in the past ten/fifteen years he has gotten me through some pretty tough times! So happy he's back with new material.

General CommentWe all have favorite faded fantasy, favorite faded memory, someone we lost. And it doesn't matter how happy we are now, some things never wouldn’t be the same. It's sad and true. I think Damien's faded fantasy is Lisa.
