I stay out too late
Got nothin' in my brain
That's what people say, mm-mm
That's what people say, mm-mm
I go on too many dates
But I can't make 'em stay
At least that's what people say, mm-mm
That's what people say, mm-mm

But I keep cruisin'
Can't stop, won't stop movin'
It's like I got this music
In my mind sayin', "It's gonna be alright"

'Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off (ooh-ooh-ooh)
Heartbreakers gonna break, break, break, break, break
And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off (ooh-ooh-ooh)

I never miss a beat
I'm lightnin' on my feet
And that's what they don't see, mm-mm
That's what they don't see, mm-mm
I'm dancin' on my own (dancin' on my own)
I'll make the moves up as I go (moves up as I go)
And that's what they don't know, mm-mm
That's what they don't know, mm-mm

But I keep cruisin'
Can't stop, won't stop groovin'

Shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off (ooh-ooh-ooh)

Hey, hey, hey
Just think, while you've been gettin' down and out
About the liars and the dirty, dirty cheats of the world
You could've been gettin' down to this sick beat

My ex-man brought his new girlfriend
She's like, "Oh my God," but I'm just gonna shake
And to the fella over there with the hella good hair
Won't you come on over, baby? We can shake, shake, shake
Yeah, oh

'Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate (haters gonna hate)
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off (ooh-ooh-ooh)
Heartbreakers gonna break, break, break, break, break (mm-mm)
And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake (and fake, and fake, and fake)
Baby, I'm just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off (ooh-ooh-ooh)

Shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off (ooh-ooh-ooh)
Shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off
(You got to) shake it off, I shake it off
I, I, I shake it off, I shake it off

obvious and beautiful. she's just tired of all the rumors about herself and wants to tell everyone her personal life is hers not them. life goes on and everyone should mind their own business. I liked it sooo much!!! she absolutely is the best! she's being herself and it's GREAT!

On August 18th 2014, Taylor Swift announced three surprises via a worldwide online stream for ABC News and Yahoo.

The first was the unveiling of “Shake it Up” a song which Taylor stated was supposed to address “being yourself” and reacting to rumors. In her mind, she stated, there is two ways you can react: negatively or by shaking it off.

The second was that “Shake It Off” would serve as the first single from her next album, titled 1989. This title signifies her birth year, but the 1980’s also served as a musical muse for Taylor Swift.

Lastly was the unveiling of the music video that accompanies this song. The inspiration was to gather a bunch of professional musicians and throw Taylor Swift into the fray and make a spontaneous video. The final frames also include 100 hand-selected fans of Taylor.

    My Interpretation

It's about criticism and how she just ignores it. Maybe if she actually showed that she's dancing on her own and making up the moves as she goes in a video, then we would see it.

This is a great song and I love it. Even though I agree that the music clip shouldn't have had all of those girls ass's shaking, the song is catchy and danceable (is that even a real word? I somehow don't think so but I'm still going to use it. Why? Cause I feel like it) Which is exactly what the song is about - not caring what other people may think of you and to live your life the way you want to. Cause you can only live it once and there's only one you so don't conform to the way society thinks you should be or the way other people want you to be. Live your live the way you want it to be lived.

i'm very disappointed with Taylor! I never forget how she sang "Mine" and "Tim McGraw"! She is not that cute country girl I used to know anymore! I hope this would change!

It's also emphasizing the phrase "I am rubber and you are glue. Everything you say bounces off of me and sticks to you!" we hear when we're children. Taylor is rubber and we are glue. Everything we say bounces off of her and sticks to us!

    My Opinion

She was hurt in relationship, again and again, and so she just shake it off, move on. Maybe there will be time when she learn that people change, as she is now, in the wrong direction? who cares. But who don't want to be a better person?

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
