"She's Not Me" as written by and Johnathan Rice Jenny Lewis....
I used to think you could save me,
I've been wandering lately
Heard she's having your baby,
And everything's so amazing
It goes on and on and on and on,
It goes on and on and on and on

But she's not me, she's easy

All those times we were making love,
I never thought we'd be breaking up
Bet you tell her I'm crazy
It goes on and on and on and on,
It goes on and on and on and on

But she's not me, she's easy

Remember the night I destroyed it all
When I told you I cheated,
And you punched through the drywall
I took you for granted
When you were all that I needed!

But she's not me, she's easy
She's not me, she's not me
She's easy, she's easy
She's not me, she's not me

My InterpretationMan, I've been here myself. Who hasn't? I've been the crazy, jealous ex-girlfriend (who cheated) and I've been the new girlfriend (who hates this terrible ex) too.

This song is about a girl who royally fucked up her last relationship. And she's recently learned that her ex-boyfriend is happy (not nearly as empathetic as Adele, I'll tell you that much) and in a new relationship.

She jealous because she realizes she had something amazing. She bashes the new girl a bit singing, "But she's not me, she's easy" because in her delusional state of mind that's the only thing she can hang on to. "She's not me." She believes she was a cooler, more passionate lover. She feels like she's so much more, so much better. But, truthfully? She probably was just more dramatic.

And she's not wrong about this new girl. She IS easy. And that's why he's with the new girl. She loves and respects him. She's the mother of his child. She's not going to cheat on him.

At the end of this song, I'm happy she's not with her ex-boyfriend anymore. She was the absolute worst!

General Commenti see this song and a lot of this album being a bit of personal growth, in particular with she's not me, the versions of yourself that you've long since stopped being.
