"Sad Girl" as written by and Lana Del Rey Elizabeth Woolridge Grant....
Being a mistress on the side
It might not appeal to fools like you
We've been around on the side
Wanna be something you would do

But you haven't seen my man
You haven't seen my man
You haven't seen my man
You haven't seen him

He's got the fire and he walks with fame
He's got the fire and he talks with fame
His Bonnie on the side, Bonnie on the side
Makes me so sad, girl
His money on the side, money on the side
Makes me so sad, girl

I'm a sad girl, I'm a sad girl, I'm a sad girl
I'm a sad girl, I'm a bad girl, I'm a bad girl

Being a bad bitch on the side
It might not appeal to fools like you
We've been around when he gets high
It might not be something you would do

But you haven't seen my man
You haven't seen my man
You haven't seen my man
You haven't seen him

He's got the fire and he walks with fame
He's got the fire and he talks with fame
His Bonnie on the side, Bonnie on the side
Makes me so sad, girl
His money on the side, money on the side
Makes me so sad, girl

I'm a sad girl, I'm a sad girl, I'm a sad girl
I'm a sad girl, I'm a bad girl, I'm a bad girl

Watch what you say to me
Careful who you're talking to
Watch what you say to me
Careful who you're talking to
I'm on fire, baby
I'm on fire

He's got the fire and he walks with fame
He's got the fire and he talks with fame
His Bonnie on the side, Bonnie on the side
Makes me so sad, girl
His money on the side, money on the side
Makes me so sad, girl

I'm a sad girl, I'm a sad girl, I'm a sad girl
I'm a sad girl, I'm a bad girl, I'm a bad girl

I'm a sad girl, I'm a sad girl, I'm a sad girl
I'm a sad girl, I'm a bad girl, I'm a bad girl

General CommentShe'll never be anything to him but his little side chick, his trophy, he's essentially Clyde and she's his bad bitch partner in crime, Bonnie.

She doesn't wanna admit to herself that he'll never love her the way she hopes he will, so she tries to look on the bright side of being his mistress because being his mistress is better than being nothing at all.

General CommentIn the beginning of the song, she was stubborn and tried to convince her that being his mistress isn’t so bad. Now she breaks down, and confesses that it isn’t what she hoped it would be, and that it makes her depressed.

She is his little “bonny” lover, a kept woman who receives his “money on the side”. The words “on the side” is repeated and emphasised — she is nothing more than an accessory to him, and is easily replaceable.

Song MeaningShe is using the "cheating" metaphor both to make fun of her critics, as well as to symbolize the dynamic of the relationship she has. Again she seems like she is carefree in the verses (cheating, being a bad bitch), but in the chorus you see that she really loves her boy, who walks and talks with a fire. He is emotionally distant, which makes her a sad girl. But also, the critics call her too emotional, a mess, a "sad girl," and I don't think she didn't title the song SG so as to get at the critics. You call me a sad, overemotional girl? I am one!

My InterpretationAbout a girl who is in love with a man, whom does not love her back. He sees her merely as someone he can show off to people, she's an object of his desires, and she knows this. However, she loves him so much, she tries to kid herself and others into believing that it's great being his "bonny/money on the side" "you haven't seen my man" is her justification when people try to tell her otherwise. "You don't know him, so you wouldn't understand" when other people try and tell her otherwise, but despite trying to fool herself, she knows what's going on, and that's why she's sad.

My Interpretation"Being a mistress/bad bitch on the side might not appeal much to fools like you"

She's making an attempt to ridicule wives, girlfriends, women who have a man who treats them right by acting the badass/"bad bitch" when the reality is the title of the song, she's a sad girl,a woman "on the side" who can just as easily be cast aside by the man she nonetheless is hopelessly in love with....very personal song to me,as are many of Lana's songs.
