Final Masquerade Lyrics

Tearing me apart with the words you wouldn't say
And suddenly tomorrow's a moment washed away
'Cause I don't have a reason and you don't have the time
But we both keep on waiting for something we won't find

The light on the horizon was brighter yesterday
With shadows floating over, the scars begin to fade
We said it was forever, but then it slipped away
Standing at the end of the final masquerade
The final masquerade

All I ever wanted the secrets that you keep
All you ever wanted the truth I couldn't speak
'Cause I can't see forgiveness and you can't see the crime
And we both keep on waiting for what we left behind

The light on the horizon was brighter yesterday
With shadows floating over, the scars begin to fade
We said it was forever, but then it slipped away
Standing at the end of the final masquerade

The final masquerade
Standing at the end of the final masquerade

The light on the horizon was brighter yesterday
With shadows floating over, the scars begin to fade
We said it was forever, but then it slipped away
Standing at the end of the final masquerade

Oh, oh oh, oh oh oh
Standing at the end of the final masquerade

Oh, oh oh , oh oh oh
Standing at the end of the final masquerade
The final masquerade

Oh oh ohhh

It is about one thing both parties want but just could never have because they don't patch things up. It's about the loss of communication. It tells us the importance of communication in any relationship: be it romantic or whatever else.

Final masquerade, it is one thing I can't understand about this song. Maybe it's talking about the edge. Like when you don't say your stance to someone, you are preventing the other person to understand you; you put barriers - just like what is happening in this song. Maybe final masquerade means that moment you are almost breaking down from getting to compromises; like that particular moment when you are about to miss the last flight and you'll miss it. It's the point of no return.

Well this song could be about unfortunate relationship but it could also be about anything else. I think it has something to do with the society of the world. People keep fighting and fighting standing for their rights which are correct but almost becoming wrong because they don't look for ways to make thinks up. They just fight and fight until today that there just seems to be no way to bring good things back - "what is done is done". We are all standing at the end of the final masquerade.

My Interpretation

^ things (not thinks) lol

@FairyAlonto A masquerade is a party in which people wearing costumes, so no one is really who they are. If people become so firm in their beliefs, they will become so engrossed in the fact that they are right and will become callous and stubborn making who they could change be their fake selves permanently, and that is when the masquerade comes to an end and the mask is taken off.

For me, this is about the end of a relationship and how you finally see the real face of somebody. In the first line, the speaker expects the other person to break up ( tearing me apart) and although the words aren't said yet (words you wouldn't say), he knows what they will say (tearing me apart again). With this breakup, their future together ends ( tomorrow's moment washed away) because from now on, they won't meet again because one doesn't have the time and the other one doesn't have a reason. These two are more or less the same (a stylistic device called variatio, since the words are not exactly the same, but their meaning almost is). The chorus (the light on the horizon was brighter yesterday) refers to the lost hope for the future (light as a common symbol for hope). the next line "with shadows floating over, the scars begin to fade" expresses that ince it is over anyways, what you did to each other before becomes unimportant. "the final masquerade" is a metaphor: at the end of a masquerade, you put down your masks and everyone reveals their true face. that happens on the song, too, the singer can see now the true self of the other person, everything that was hidden before. the next lines are a flashback to the relationship an give hints why it had to end. they never were honest with each other (all I ever wanted the secrets that you keep, all you ever wanted the truth I couldn't speak). Again, the words are not the same but the meaning is. The result is that they lie to each other. Maybe that was the reason why they saw their true "faces" and broke up.

I think this song sums it all up really well...

My Interpretation

I just noticed I forgot some lines... " cause I can't see forgiveness and you can't see the crime": they are fighting over something. Either he wants to be forgiven, but the other one can't see the mistame he made, or, more likely, he cannot think he can forgive the other person. The other person cannot even see the crime. "we both keep on waiting for something we won't find/ for what we left behind": both are missing something in the relationship they once had or they will never find. Actually, these lines are quite important for the rest of the lyrics since...

This song reminds me of Burn it Down mainly because of the music. The Lyrics are awesome. Lyrics are easy to remember even though they're complicated in a way. I think that this song is about. It has 2 halves. One is about how the relationship is perfect, the expectations and bright future. The other halve is the opposite and how the relationship can't last. ''Standing at the end of the final masquerade'' It's almost the end for this relationship

A masquerade is a mask. So it's probably about a relationship where everyone is wearing masquerades at a dance and as one of the person in the relationship realizes that it's not him Something like that

This is brilliant metaphorical scene in which they express a life of lies with the representation of a party in which there are only masks.

I thought this as well something along the lines off something ending a relationship , basically meaning no matter how hard you try you wont be in love and the end off the relationship is near , you will never have the spark

I think the song is about something more than just lack of communication in a relationship. I think by the final masquerade he means the huge volcanic eruption that happened around 535 AD which left the whole world with drought, floods, famine, plague and the collapse of ancient civilizations around the world. this catastrophe made the skies around the world darkend for two years. "But we both keep on waiting for something we won't find" could refer to the sun and a good moment in the relationship like it used to like " The light on the horizon was brighter yesterday With shadows floating over, the scars begin to fade" could mean that because this catastrophe the problems that they had dont mean as much any more now that they are failing together. "We said it was forever, but then it slipped away" the sky was always there and we dont expect it to go away but like this blossoming relationship i was covered by darkness. "Standing at the end of the final masquerade The final masquerade"this refers to them trying to act like nothing is wrong covering it up and "dancing " but they know its the last time. this could also be the fact that every one thought is was the end of the world but they had to keep going and stand at the end of the final masquerade. "All I ever wanted the secrets that you keep All you ever wanted the truth I couldn't speak" this refers to how they both see the lack of commutation as the other persons fault. Coincidentally this is what every one thought when the sun disappeared. "And we both keep on waiting for what we left behind" this could mean thy are still wait for the sun to come back in stead of adapting to this new life. and the other person is also the sun. with the evidence in place he is really comparing the loss of a love as the end of the world that will eventually fade away and be completely forgotten

@AdamArtz, it's stars, not scars. stars makes more sense

@linkinparkrulz Stars does make more sense in that context but the band chose to use the word "Scars" instead.

@AdamArtz, yes. i had replied after hearing it on Amazon music on an iPad. after listening to the CD with a stereo, I can more clearly hear that its scars and not stars.

I've always had issues with my dad and honestly him being a huge crybaby about past things in life and wishing I would be perfect. "The truth I couldn't speak" That the babysitter he hired was abusive and messed me up. I still just have to deal with him but I feel like I'm losing control and every day I contemplate telling him but if I do I'm afraid he'll hurt himself or say I'm a liar and that it's a bad excuse. I want it to happen but at the same time, I don't. My Final Masquerade

My Interpretation

It's honestly to me the final confrontation of one person to another before everything changes. Or the realization that without a confrontation the scars will fade and the past won't even matter anymore.

To me this song is about lack of communication and about the past of two people who can\'t seem to connect anymore. Both parties discovered each other and want something more, but can\'t seem to connect or have a reason to connect anymore. They\'re going to show their final words and actions towards each other and try to move on..
