"10 Lovers" as written by and Daniel Auerbach Brian Joseph Burton....
When I hear them use your name
I get all choked up inside
It's not only from the shame
It's like 10 different lovers died
Except you're still just a mile away
But there's nothing left to say

Don't leave us down and out again
Cause we might break instead of bend
I felt a little strain in the pouring rain
It washed away most everything

If I found another love
They must be forever true
Cause if someone breaks this heart
Your old man right here is through
Heaven just seems so far away
When there's nothing left to say

Don't leave us down and out again
Cause we might break instead of bend
I felt a little strain in the pouring rain
It washed away most everything

Don't leave us down and out again
Cause we might break instead of bend
I felt a little strain in the pouring rain
It washed away most everything

Don't leave us down and out again
The little girl can't comprehend
She had another dream that her mama's gone
She's alright, but you're all wrong

My OpinionI heard this was about Dan's wife leaving him and this is him trying to explain it all to their daughter.

The wife left and it was really hard on him and the girl.

The girl is having nightmares about it and he is resentful toward the wife because of how hard it has been on them. He can't explain why they're not a family anymore.

My InterpretationI think the song is just about the singer (Dan) going through the break up with his wife.

The first verse is him thinking about how sad he is that someone he used to and might still love is impossible for him to talk to anymore.
The second verse is pretty straight forward too. If he ever manages to find someone to love again, they gotta be faithful to him.
The chorus is more open to interpretation I think. I interpret it as Dan being afraid that them meeting could lead to them getting into a fight or "breaking" instead of just letting it go or "bending".
The "Altered Chorus" is my favorite part of the song even though it's still pretty clear he's telling his wife that their daughter is sad that the parents are splitting up. The last line, "She's alright, but you're all wrong," is pretty interesting too because I think it's Dan beginning to "break" from talking to his ex for too long and starting to say that the divorce is her fault.

    Good song with interesting lyrics
