You live your life
You go day by day
Like nothing can go wrong
These skies are made
They're changing the game
You learn to play it hard

And I know you wish for more
And I know you try
And I hope you realize
You know the time is right

The whole world is watching when you rise
The whole world is beating for you right now
Your whole life is flashing before your eyes
It's all in this moment that changes all

What are you waiting for?
What are you fighting for?
'Cause time's always slipping away
The whole world is watching
The whole world is watching
You and you rise.

You build your walls
Then break them away
'Cause that is what it takes
You saved yourself
You found who you are
And that never goes away

And I know you wish for more
And I know you try
And I hope you realize
You know the time is right

The whole world is watching when you rise
The whole world is beating for you right now
Your whole life is flashing before your eyes
It's all in this moment that changes all

What are you waiting for?
What are you fighting for?
'Cause time's always slipping away
The whole world is watching
Yeah, the whole world is watching
You and you rise

Your sacrifice comes through your mind
But nothing is wasted
You made it now
You rise again, breaking out
He said that you're taken you paid the price

The whole world is watching
The whole world is watching
The whole world is watching
You and you rise

What are you waiting for?
What are you fighting for?
'Cause time's always slipping away
The whole world is watching
Yeah, the whole world is watching
You and you rise

This song reminds me of a story I heard about a Navy SEAL who jumped on a grenade to save his friends.

You live your life You go day by day Like nothing can go wrong These scars are made They're changing the game You learn to play it hard

Soldiers in war zones try to go on with their daily lives despite the fact that they're in constant danger from the enemy. They try to put it out of their mind that they could be killed at any minute. Bad things happen to the people close to them, but for them that's life and they have to carry on. This must've been what the SEAL's life was like in the weeks before he died.

And I know you wish for more And I know you try And I hope you realize You know the time is right

The SEAL was very young when he died; he wished for a long, full life back home after the war. He tried everyday to fight for his country so he could go home to his family, but he realized that his job might prevent that from happening.

The whole world is watching when you rise The whole world is beating for you right now Your whole life is flashing before your eyes It's all in this moment that changes all

When the grenade fell near him, he realized that fate was in his hands and he chose who lived and who died. That moment changed his life and the lives of the other soldiers around him. His entire life flashed before his eyes, and he only had a second to make this life or death decision.

What are you waiting for? What are you fighting for? 'Cause time's always slipping away The whole world is watching Yeah, the whole world is watching You and you rise

As a special ops soldier in a war zone, the amount of time he had left to do what he wanted to do was limited. His job was very important though; it would determine the outcome of the war and change history. He knew all the people that depended on him to help his country win the war, and he rose up to the challenge and gave his life.

You build your walls Then break them away 'Cause that is what it takes You saved yourself You found who you are And that never goes away

SEALs spend their little free time trying to separate themselves from the horrors of war, but they're often quickly drawn back into them, either physically or psychologically. When the SEAL jumped on the grenade for his friends, he saved himself by escaping the war and dying for a noble reason. He found his true calling as a SEAL, and because of his selfless sacrifice, his memory would live on in history.

Your sacrifice comes through your mind But nothing is wasted You made it now You rise again, breaking out He said that you're taken you paid the price

As the grenade was about to explode, he quickly ran his options out in his mind. Nothing was wasted because in giving his own life, he saved his friends, so he didn't die for nothing. He rose above the enemy and broke out of his fear of dying. He paid the price for the conflict between his country and his enemy. He was the better person that day because he gave everything he had to save his comrades.

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
