Not a single saving thought
Just push sleep off
And believe there's substance somewhere.

Find myself holding sleep like a life-line
And believe there's substance somewhere.

Just push off waking
Skip truth for comfort
And hold the falling close.

Find myself holding sleep like a life-line
There's difference in what's lost and the face that comes together.

General CommentWhat is so painful to wake up to? Why does there seem to be no substance? The only real clue is in the last line:

"There's difference in what's lost and the face that comes together."

Whomever belongs to the face, I can't help but wonder if it speaks to those times when you are looking back at a recently lost love - you know there were very good reasons for what was lost, but the face that comes together in your mind is only of the good aspects, and we torture ourselves in this way.
