"Gypsy" as written by Hugo Pierre Leclercq, Stefani Germanotta and Nadir Khayatt....
Sometimes a story has no end
Sometimes I think that we could just be friends
'Cause I'm a wandering man, he said to me

And what about our future plans?
Does it seem we have even make sense?
When I got the whole world in front of me

So I said, "I don't wanna be alone forever
But I can be tonight
I don't wanna be alone forever
But I love gypsy life
I don't wanna be alone forever
Maybe we can see the world together
I don't wanna be alone forever
But I can be tonight, tonight"

So I just packed my baggage and
Said goodbye to family and friends
And took the road to nowhere on my own

Like Dorothy on a yellow brick
Hope my ruby shoes get us there quick
'Cause I left everyone I love at home

And I don't wanna be alone forever
But I can be tonight
I don't wanna be alone forever
But I love gypsy life
I don't wanna be alone forever
Maybe we can see world together
I don't wanna be alone forever
But I can be tonight, tonight

'Cause I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm
A gypsy, a gypsy, a gypsy
I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm
A gypsy, a gypsy, a gypsy
I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm
A gypsy, a gypsy, a gypsy
I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm
A gypsy, a gypsy, a gypsy, I'm

And then he asked me,
Said, "Baby, why do we love each other?"
I said, "Honey, it's simple.
It's the way that you love and treat your mother"

Thought that I would be alone forever
But I won't be tonight
I'm a man without a home
But I think with you I can spend my life
And you'll be my little gypsy princess
Pack your bags and we can chase the sunset
Bust the rear view and fire up the jets
'Cause it's you and me
Baby, for life

Would you go with me?
(For life)
See the world with me

'Cause I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm
A gypsy, a gypsy, a gypsy
I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm
A gypsy, a gypsy, a gypsy I'm

Russia, UK, Paris, I'm
Italian, Asian, Kompai
Africa, India, I'm
A gypsy, a gypsy, a gypsy I'm
Latin American, I don't speak German but I try
Someday in Jakarta, I'm
American, I'm gypsy I
Bangkok, Australia, Malaysia
Sweden, Finland, Norway
Be my home just for the day
I'm a gypsy, gypsy, gypsy hey

My OpinionI will take this opportunity to be the first one to give an interpretation/comment/opinion about this song.

ARTPOP, despite some misses, is one well-constructed album. The weak ones are well placed in the record's listing. Gypsy is the best penultimate track, a good mood-booster before the "super anthem" Applause.

Gypsy is a stand-out despite the song kind of has this "Hey, I've kind of heard this song before" feel to it It's theme is reminiscent of Born This Way, Gaga's previous record. It's even musically under the BTW tag. A not-so-slow-not-so-fast track about her inner feelings and emotions. What makes it stand out is its story.

Of course Gaga is no gypsy, as pertaining to the Romani people. To those who are unaware of who they are, they are people who are deemed "wanderers". But she applies the way of life of a gypsy to her life. Gaga and the gypsy have so many things in common: they keep on moving from one place to another, constantly redefining their lives and their living, constantly meeting new friends and new experiences.

See? In this sense, we can actually apply ourselves too as "gypsies".

We are a gypsy in a way, constantly strives to find our eternal happiness.

    Now. The song.

Of course if you're going to dissect it, is a dialogue between a guy and a girl. And the guy's thinking of leaving and exploring the world on his own. We have those moments. The sweet taste of freedom. But he has her. And she has him. And he's thinking of leaving her so that he can "see the whole world in front of him."

Devastated, she could only come up with saying something that can maybe help her cope from the pain. Saying that "I don't want to be alone forever, but I can be tonight." Imagine the strength. You got slapped in the face, and your only reaction is "I'll be alright. I mean, I won't be forever, but I'll manage tonight."

The guy then asks her "Why do we love each other?"

And she could only reply "Honey, it's simple: it's the way that you love and treat your mother."

The guy then learns that... he doesn't need to see the world alone. He doesn't need to wander of the Earth's wonders. He doesn't have to be alone.

He has her. And she has him.

And finally he thinks of not staying with her... but letting her come with him. "Thought that I would be alone forever, but I won't be tonight. I'm a man without a home, but I think with you, I could spend my life."

We're all waiting for that person to say those words to us.

    We're all gypsies.

See the world together. Never alone.

General CommentI disagree with the previous comment. The meaning of the song is so straightforward.
Gaga works a job that requires her to travel a lot. She is saying that even though she loves travelling and seeing the world, being constantly on the go, her "gypsy" life, it's so hard to have a relationship with this man she truly loves.
It's easier to "just be friends" when you can't maintain a relationship like this.
She's saying "I don't wanna be alone forever, but I can be tonight" . She loves her gypsy life (touring) even though it means she has to be alone, and so for that reason she will sacrifice being alone tonight, even though its not a lifestyle she can maintain forever.
