"It Takes Two " as written by Katy Perry, Mikkel Storleer Eriksen, Tor Erik Hermansen, Benjamin Levin and Emeli Sande....
Is Mercury in retrograde or is that the excuse that I've always made
'Cause I wanna blame you
But I can only blame myself

Yeah, it's easy to throw you under the bus
I'll call you crazy, while I'm filling my cup
I say these things to hurt you
But I only hurt myself

Oh, I can only take responsibility for me
It takes two, two sides to every story
Not just you
I can't keep ignoring
I admit half of it, I'm not that innocent, oh yeah

It takes two, two sides to every story
Not just me
You can't keep ignoring
But let me be first baby to say I'm sorry (I'm sorry)

I face my demons, yeah, I paid my dues
I had to grow up, I wish you could too
I wanted to save you, but I can only save myself

Oh, I can only be the change you want to see
Yeah, to see

It takes two, two sides to every story
Not just you
I can't keep ignoring
I admit half of it, I'm not that innocent, oh yeah

It takes two, two sides to every story
Not just me
You can't keep ignoring
But let me be first baby to say I'm sorry (I'm sorry)

I point my finger but it does me no good
I look in the mirror and it tells me the truth, yeah
Why all these lessons always learned the hard way
Is it too late to change

It takes two, two sides to every story
Not just you
I can't keep ignoring
I admit half of it, I'm not that innocent, oh

It takes two, two sides to every story
Not just me
You can't keep ignoring
But let me be first baby to say I'm sorry (I'm sorry)

My OpinionLyrically I think the song is fairly self-explanatory, in terms of accepting partial responsibility for a relationship breaking down, but the first line sticks out the me the most "Is Mercury in retrograde or is that the excuse that I've always made?".
When Mercury is in retrograde, it is a time of inner reflection and re-evaluation, which is a main theme of this song and the album as a whole. The writing process of the album was from the end of 2012 to mid 2013, and the final Mercury retrograde of 2012 was in the time where Scorpio was the ruling sign (Katy's sun sign, in this time she and other water signs would be more reflective than non-scorpios) and the first Mercury retrograde of 2013 was when Pisces was ruling (another water sign like Scorpio, also more reflective than non-water signs during this time). I believe these retrogrades would be particularly influential to the album's lyrical content, particularly for a Scorpio (which she is)

General CommentOkay i listen to this song a million times it is alot easier to understand than you think

When she says "I admit half of it" and "but let me be first baby to say i'm sorry" she was apologizing and i guess he wasn't understanding

My Opinionlike another scorpios, she has trouble in leaving bad relationship whether it's with rb or jm :) .. well people come and go.. apologise then say bye then done Ms. Perry :) I have same birthday date as her :D this song it's just like natural behaviour, even I realise it's people who do me wrong, I always apologise first, thinking maybe I had done mistake priorly..and due to inability to stand in conflict, we always the first to say 'sorry' to make things better :)
