Better go back, rhythm inside
Better go back, here inside
I told you I would get you
The back of the hand
I told you I would find
A place to go

Paper trails on a mountain
And fruits on a table
A wooden house to live in
A baby to care

The grass green but the
The sun is blue
Better find a way
To get through to you
Where are you when I need you? Where did you go?
How can I find you when I need to? Where should I go?

Paper trail on a mountain and far away
A big trail on a mountain you'll find a way

The fire outside
It's burning up the place
But you're inside
Burning up ahead

Paper trails on a mountain
And fruits on a table
A wooden house to live in
A baby to care

    Song Meaning

rather than think of the song as a story, I think of it more as a poem capturing a state of mind.. that state of mind being the confusion or depression of someone who's been rejected, and trying to cope with it or make sense of it.

the paper trails are the memories the vocalist has of the person who has left him, trying to follow them like a trail to see how, and at what point, he finally lost her.

he made her promises but only kept some of them. he made her a home and wants her to come back to it.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
