Giving this world everything I've got
Running through the woods, running through this shots
Tryna to survive a day!
All I want is that you extend your hand to me
Singing outside waiting for the words to come
Living my life tryna do what's right,
And hope for a better day
You know those words you wrote me brought me to my knees
All I'm saying is that

You're home, you'll never be alone
You're home, you'll never be alone
You're home, to be alone
You're home, hope you find your way home

Singing outside waiting for the world to call
Living my life tryna do what's right
In the hope of a better day
And all I want is that you extend your hand to me
Oooh, I want show me where it hurts,
We'll make it OK
Tell me that you'll stay
Even when I'm far away
My voice will carry through
Until the end it's me & you
We can make it if we try
All that I'm saying is that

You're home, you'll never be alone
You're home, you'll never be alone
You're home, to be alone
You're home, hope you find your way home

You're never gonna be alone

    My Interpretation

I think this song is about really loving someone, but not being able to be together at the moment because of distance.

"Giving this world everything I've got Running through the woods, running through this shots Tryna to survive a day!"

I think this is the person telling to the world how much this person is giving to it, how much it hurts not to be with the person that he or she wants.

    But the key is here:

"Oooh, I want show me where it hurts, We'll make it OK Tell me that you'll stay Even when I'm far away"

It's clear, they love each other, but can't be together 'cause of distance, but even though it hurts so much for the two of them, they are willing to fight, and it doesn't matter how much pain there is they both will be there to make it better for the other.

"You're home, you'll never be alone You're home, hope you find your way home"

Hoping one day get to be together completely.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.
