"Beautiful War" as written by and Jared Followill Matthew Followill....
Bite your tongue
Don't make a scene dear
Everybody's been here
At least once before
But we've been here more
Your heart breaks
Rolls down the window
I've seen it all go
Comeback around
I've heard the sound

The tip of your tongue
The top of your lungs
Is doing my head in
I say love
Don't mean nothing
Left them something
Worth fighting for
It's a beautiful war

When I hold
The warmth of your body
There is nobody
That I'd rather hold
Shattered and cold

The tip of your tongue
The top of your lungs
Is making me crazy
I say love
Don't mean nothing
Left them something
Worth fighting for
It's a beautiful war

I say love
You don't need nothing
Left them something
Worth fighting for
It's a beautiful war
It's a beautiful war
It's a beautiful war

I say love
I say love
Don't need nothing
Left them something,
Worth fighting for

I say love
Don't need nothing
Left them something
Worth fighting for

It's a beautiful war
It's a beautiful war
It's a beautiful war
It's a beautiful war

General Comment I'm pretty sure it's unless there's something, worth fighting for. Any ways, love this song. love KOL. Love this album!

General CommentI think the war here...and we all have them....is the conflict of loving someone that made such a horrible mistake. Violence, at that. In her heart tho, the love, it's worth fighting for...fighting her conflict of right and wrong. The dichotomy; her brother. No pain deeper, and no love greater. Video. Song only love can do your head in. No matter how complicated. Rather simple concept. If its not worth fighting for prob not love. If its worth fighting for, fight...love only comes around sometimes... This is the angst u feel when you're going back to get more....it is a beautiful war, because unless u feel it, songs don't mean nothin. Hurting feels good

General CommentThis album really plays Caleb's vocal chops to full advantage. He swings from visceral yelps to beautiful balladry effortlessly! Seriously, the vocalist of his generation.
Also, I love the informality of the phrase "doing my head in" in the context of a love song!

General CommentIt's a good song and all, although they seem to be turning into U2 (not a good thing IMHO). But I don't understand the line about the top of her lungs driving him crazy. How can he see/ feel the tops of her lungs so they drive him crazy? Is he like Gunther von Hagens the loony pathologist or Hannibal Lecter and sliced her up or something? Is she like blown to bits by a bomb in the beautiful war? Am I missing some cute metaphor? Help me out!

He's saying that her screaming at the top of her lungs is driving him crazy. And what's the point unless there's something worth fighting for.

My InterpretationThis song is about the drama queens and kings that must argue/ fight while in a relationship (only because they don't know any better). If you don't join them in this act of immaturity they will subconsciously think you don't care and withdraw, first emotionally and then physically (which is a good thing). But, I've been there before.
