There was a glassman named
Sir Nothing Nor Anything,
And one day he pristined
The perfect glass figurine.

She stood on two
With ballet shoes,
And see-through hair
Her shoulders bare.

(Verse Two)

Since then he's closed his blinds
With her remaining inside,
The people call his name
Keeps silent he all the same.

And in the dark
A fires spark,
Refracts through legs
Of perfect shape.

(Chorus)

Wherever we fall with all that's shattered around
The broken glass will surely follow.
And when we hit the ground all that keeps raining down
Is all the glass we couldn't swallow.

(Verse Three)

With pitchforks and the torch
The people broke down his door,
And when they flooded in
They cried 'a man full of sin'.

So he climbed up
To roofing top,
And kissed her hair
And then they leapt to air.

(Chorus)

Wherever we fall with all that's shattered around
The broken glass will surely follow.
And when we hit the ground all that keeps raining down
Is all the glass we couldn't swallow.

My InterpretationHere's my interpretation of the song (Which happens to be my favorite by Au4)

A man creates the perfect glass figurine. What this figurine represents, I'm not sure, it could be beauty, or perfection itself.

He keeps the figurine inside his house, keeps to himself and shuts everyone else out. Now this could be taken two different ways. Either he simply keeps to himself with the figurine and is simply minding his own business, or he is obsessed with the figurine and keeps others away as to keep the beauty for himself. The people burst in to attack him or perhaps steal the figurine for themselves. This could a dig at peoples desire to take what they want and our inclination for jealousy/envy. IF the figurine represents perfection, then this would be an interesting statement as to how people often treat truly great people. Take scripture for instance (whether or not you see it as fact or fiction). Jesus was God (true perfection) in human form and his only desires were to help everyone, and yet he was tortured and murdered.

Lastly is the chorus which hold my personal favorite interpreted meaning. For me the main statement of the chorus is that bad things are going to happen in life and things around you are going to "shatter" - it's inevitable.

But how you deal with that, will affect you greatly. "And when we hit the ground all that keeps raining down Is all the glass we couldn't swallow." You can either accept or "swallow" the truth or be left to suffer further by not doing so. Hence the shards of glass raining down, being what "We couldn't swallow" - or accept. For instance if an acquaintance "stabs you in the back" for personal gain, you could feel betrayed and hurt/angry over it, or you could accept the truth which is that people are people and everyone generally tries their best, and we all fall short and can hurt others with selfish acts, and that it was nothing personal. If you accept the latter you will suffer much less.
