Data trails, like fingernails
Scratch across, the sky
Hard to know, figure out
Tell the truth, from lies
Everywhere, listening
Every word, you say
Think I found, a way around
Yeah, I think I found, a way

Come on

Satellite, I'm watching you
I'm one step, ahead
Satellite, I'm part of you
I'm inside, your head

Yes we can, yes we did
Eliminate the spread
Better watch, what you think
What was that, you said?
Everywhere, and everything
And every word, you say
Think I found, a way around
Think I found, a way

Come on

Satellite, I'm watching you
I'm one step, ahead
Satellite, I'm part of you
I'm inside, your head
Satellite, I'm watching you
I'm one step, ahead
Satellite, I'm part of you
I'm inside, your head

Satellite
Satellite, I know you're up there somewhere
Satellite, I know you're up there somewhere
Satellite, (so very high)
I know you're up there somewhere
Satellite, (so very high)
I know you're up there somewhere
Satellite, (so very high)
I know you're up there somewhere
Satellite, (so very high)
I know you're up there somewhere
Satellite, (so very high)
I know you're up there somewhere
Satellite, (so very high)
I know you're up there somewhere
So very high
So very high

Song MeaningSeems pretty obviously to be about government surveillance and trying to hide from it. Lots of shadowy entities watching everything you do. We "eliminated the spread" of terrorism but at the cost of certain personal freedoms. These days you *do* have to watch what you think (and especially what you type) because everything gets saved and filtered and parsed for potential impending acts of terrorism.

This album was released shortly after the Edward Snowden issue, maybe too quickly after that news item to have been influenced directly by it? I'm also wondering whether the "Yes We Can" is an Obama reference? Ties into the government bit, but I think more of Bush as signing away our privacy with the Patriot Act.

General CommentI think I agree with therosebowl on this one, but just to make a contrast I also had this idea. Maybe satelite is being used in the place of God. What really pushes me towards this idea is the end "I know you're up there somewhere." Sounds like he's having faith. "Eliminating the spread" could be the spread of Christianity. I think maybe he's drawing parallels between the two concepts. Perhaps he's saying that government is the new God. That the government is trying to play God.

General CommentI know some people who are Satellites. They don't have their own orbit around life, they orbit someone else and live off of them (and are also addicts of some kind).

    Just a thought.
