"Papaoutai " as written by and Paul Van Haver....

Bien mieux qu'tre mal accompagn
Pas vrai?

O est ton papa?
Dis moi o est ton papa!
Sans mme devoir lui parler,
Il sait ce qui ne va pas.
Hein sacr papa!
Dis moi o es-tu cach!
a doit

a doit...
Faire au moins mille fois qu'on a
bouff nos doigts
H!

O t'es? Papa, o t'es?
O t'es? Papa, o t'es?
O t'es? Papa, o t'es?
Ou t'es, ou t'es o papa, o t'es?

O t'es? Papa, o t'es?
O t'es? Papa, o t'es?
O t'es? Papa, o t'es?
Ou t'es, ou t'es o papa, o t'es?

O est ton papa?
Dis moi o est ton papa!
Sans mme devoir lui parler,
Il sait ce qui ne va pas.
Hein sacr papa!
Dis moi o es-tu cach!
a doit...
Faire au moins mille fois que j'ai
Compt mes doigts
H!

O est ton papa?
Dis moi o est ton papa!
Sans mme devoir lui parler,
Il sait ce qui ne va pas.
Hein sacr papa!
Dis moi o es-tu cach!
a doit...
Faire au moins mille fois que j'ai
Compt mes doigts
H!

O t'es? Papa, o t'es?
O t'es? Papa, o t'es?
O t'es? Papa, o t'es?
Ou t'es, ou t'es o papa, o t'es?

O t'es? Papa, o t'es?
O t'es? Papa, o t'es?
O t'es? Papa, o t'es?
Ou t'es, ou t'es o papa, o t'es?

My InterpretationMy cousin showed me this song and he said it was about kids who grow up with gay parents and how that's a bad thing...(I think he was kinda homophobic) but after researching Stromae a bit more, I learned that his dad was murdered in the Tutsi Genocide in Rwanda, so Stromae grew up without a father. Take that, homophobic cousin :P

General CommentSad/melancholic song with powerful lyrics about a young boy who is looking for his father (either real or as a responsible, parental advisor = a role model for a father)

General CommentI think this is a song about a father who is rarely seen since he works so much as in the song the mother says he has to got to work often. So the boy started to replace his dad for a doll and is asking him where he's hiding and to come back. He often calls him a coward. He sees that the other children have their father as a role model or leader someone to look up to but he doesn't so he keeps saying where are you dad? In hopes of getting him back.

    TranslationTell me where he's from
So I know where to go
Mom says if you search carefully
you'll always end up finding it.

She says he's never too far
He's off for work very often
    Mom says working is good
Way better than keeping bad company
    Right?

    Where is your dad?
Tell me where is your dad?
Without even having talked to him
    He knows what's wrong
    Huh, holy dad!
    Tell me where you're hidden
It must be at least a thousand times
    That I counted my fingers
    Hey!

Where are you? Dad, where are you?
Where are you? Dad, where are you?
Where are you? Dad, where are you?
Where are you? Where are you? Where, Dad, where are you?

Whether we believe it or not
There will be one day where we will no longer believe
Some day where we all will be a dad
And some day where we all will disappear

    Will we be abominable?
    Will we be admirable?
    Producers or geniuses
    Tell us who gives
    Birth to the Irresponsibles?

    Ah, tell us who
    Everyone knows
    How to make babies
    But no one knows
    How to make dads
    Mr. Know it all
It runs in the blood, doesn't it

Gotta suck it out of my thumbs, or what?
    Tell us where he's hidden
It must be at least a thousand times
    That you've eaten your fingers
    Hey!

Where are you? Dad, where are you?
Where are you? Dad, where are you?
Where are you? Dad, where are you?
Where are you? Where are you? Where, Dad, where are you?

Where are you? Dad, where are you?
Where are you? Dad, where are you?
Where are you? Dad, where are you?
Where are you? Where are you? Where, Dad, where are you?

    Where is your dad?
Tell me where is your dad?
Without even having talked to him
    He knows what's wrong
    Huh, holy dad!
    Tell me where you're hidden
It must be at least a thousand times
    That I counted my fingers
    Hey!

    Where is your dad?
Tell me where is your dad?
Without even having talked to him
    He knows what's wrong
    Huh, holy dad!
    Tell me where you're hidden
It must be at least a thousand times
    That I counted my fingers
    Hey!

Where are you? Dad, where are you?
Where are you? Dad, where are you?
Where are you? Dad, where are you?
Where are you? Where are you? Where, Dad, where are you?

Where are you? Dad, where are you?
Where are you? Dad, where are you?
Where are you? Dad, where are you?
Where are you? Where are you? Where, Dad, where are you?
