"State of Trust" as written by Mikael Bengt Stanne, Martin Brandstrom, Anders Jivarp, Niklas Bo Sundin and Martin Henriksson....
Like a crack in the clean slate
I see emotion take over the rational
We are the favoured sons of reason
With tools at our disposal
Squandered day by day

Strip the thoughts
Heal the system
Take the original back
It is inside me/now
If this is all I can remember
Can I ever trust myself

Like a flash or a fleeting glance
I see movement in the corner of my eye
Now the mind goes into overdrive
To process and deceive
How will I ever know

Give up the experience
To halt the fictional mind
It is inside me/now
Block out all that makes it painful
Set the pieces back in place

If this is all that I remember, can I ever trust myself

I track movement
Like light behind my eyes
Made to match up
With what I tell myself each day
My experience
Is what I do not know
And one I cannot trust

It infects the marrow
A virus of ideas
It is inside me/now
What my mind is telling me
Must come undone

If this is all that I remember, can I ever trust myself

My InterpretationI think this song is more about general situations in which you can't trust yourself, especially when your subconsciousness starts to do things beyond your control.

For example if you fall in love with a person, everybody tells you to stay away from her/him, but of course you know it better than everyone else. When "emotion takes over the rational" you are not able to focus on clear thoughts. You're wondering, if it's really like you see it, or just because love is blind. You just can't be sure anymore if what your mind tells you is actually true or not.

Your "mind goes into overdrive, to process and deceive" you and you start to lose faith in yourself. To get all over this, you have to "halt the fictional mind", "block out all that makes it painful" and finally "set the pieces back in place".

Of course this also fits to depression or other states of mind out your control.

My InterpretationTo me this song means that the deception of the mind through natural emotions passed through our natural ancestors can create a situation in which you believe you saw or felt something that truly doesn't exist while your mind tells lies and justifications. Those deceptions could be ghosts, angels, god, monsters, whatever the mind can conjure. The main idea is that you should learn to give up on something that isn't actually there and overcome what the mind is telling you even if it is painful.

General CommentIt is about being infected by the virus of religion, and how the mind works to create a false reality of delusions that contradict sensory experience. It leaves the individual unsure of what is real and what is not, and unsure who or what to trust or believe.
