"Waves" as written by and Jihad Rahmouni Dennis Stehr....
My face above the water
My feet can't touch the ground
Touch the ground, and it feels like
I can see the sands on the horizon everytime (everytime)
You are not around

I'm slowly drifting away (drifting away)
Wave after wave
Wave after wave
I'm slowly drifting (drifting away)
And it feels like I'm drowning
Pulling against the stream
Pulling against the stream

I wish I could make it easy
Easy to love me
Love me
But still I reach, to find a way
I'm stuck here in between
I'm looking for the right words to say (to say)

I'm slowly drifting, drifting away
Wave after wave
Wave after wave
I'm slowly drifting (drifting away)
And it feels like I'm drowning
Pulling against the stream
Pulling against the stream

My InterpretationI feel like he's singing about a relationship which he knew was slowly falling apart, and it killed him that it was that way, but there was no way of stopping it. Just like waves slowly chip away at the seaside, the relationship is slowly being battered down.

My InterpretationThis song is very fitting for this period of my life.

Met this girl roughly a few months ago and we hit it off great from the start. We fell in love, and made promises to each other, even though we live 5 hours apart and can only see each other roughly every 2 weeks.
We used to talk on the phone all night every other night and she used to show me so much love, but lately it seems like it's fading probably due to the lack of physically seeing each other. So, in other words, sometimes I feel like the man in the song, like our relationship is drowning and slowly ending and there's nothing I can really do.

My InterpretationIsn't it true in new exciting things we enjoy ourselves almost oblivious to things around us. After the hype we realize our high is not sustainable. Feelings fade and time marches on.

    My face above the water
My feet can't touch the ground

Enjoying our time together. But no roots, no seeds, drifting and drifting like a piece of wood...Like meeting someone, moving in after a short time, maybe marry and after a short time, where is the relationship. Sure it could happen to some and when it does it is awesome but that is not the norm.

Try grounding yourself..."Hey, maybe we should get to know one another first" or spend time with your family instead of 24/7 with your new friend making sure you don't loose your identity and what happens, reach for the ground and the good times fade. The relationship sinks when the other person is willing to float along the entire time. I know I want more. I need more. Probably why I am still single and never been married. But I would rather be single than married to the wrong person. It doesn't hurt any less. The loneliness is unbearable at times. Best wishes reader. xoxo

General CommentThere is a verse in this lyric that makes me doubt there might be a mistake.
Everywhere on the web I do find "I can see the sands on the horizon everytime you're not around", but I think it would make much more sense if it were "I can't see the sands on the horizon when you're not around". Why? he says he's in deep water (face above water + can't touch the ground): you may enjoy this, but it doesn't seem to be the case - he says he's drifting away and it seems like he's drowning as he's pulling against the stream. So what can he do? try to reach the shore on the horizon. But if she's not around what will the feeling be? positive or negative? if she were around it would be easier for him to find the strength to reach the shore, the right direction to the sands, but she's not around, she's gone, so safety (the sands of the shore) seems to have disappeared and he can't see them, that's why I think "I CAN'T see the sands on the horizon when you're not around" sounds more logical to me. I think it often happens you can't tell if one says, for example, "I can do it" or "I can't do it"

MemoryI have felt this way about living so far away, so single and so alone from my twin. She found her soulmate when she was in high school.

I wish I could make it easy, easy to love me.

Without a significant other to share life with, I felt so unanchored, adrift.
