"Not Gonna Die" as written by John Cooper and Korey Cooper....
Death surrounds
My heartbeat's slowing down
I won't take this world's abuse
I won't give up or refuse

This is how it feels when you're bent and broken
This is how it feels when your dignity's stolen
When everything you love is leaving
You hold on to what you believe in

The last thing I heard was you whispering goodbye
And then I heard you flatline

No, not gonna die tonight
We've gotta stand and fight forever (don't close your eyes)
No, not gonna die tonight
We've gotta fight for us together
No, we're not gonna die tonight

Break their hold
Cause I won't be controlled
They can't keep their chains on me
When the truth has set me free

This is how it feels when you take your life back
This is how it feels when you finally fight back
When life pushes me I push harder
What doesn't kill me makes me stronger

The last thing I heard is you whispering goodbye
And then I heard you flatline

No, not gonna die tonight
We've gotta stand and fight forever (don't close your eyes)
No, not gonna die tonight
We've gotta fight for us together
No, we're not gonna die tonight

Don't you give up on me
You're everything I need
This is how it feels when you take your life back
This is how it feels when you fight back

No, not gonna die tonight
We've gotta stand and fight forever (don't close your eyes)
No, not gonna die tonight
We've gotta fight for us together
No, we're not gonna die tonight

No, we're not gonna die tonight

Not gonna die
(Not gonna die)
Not gonna die
(Not gonna die)
Not gonna die tonight

General CommentThis song is great! I think it has a great message about persevering and God getting you through what seems impossible. I don't know if Skillet intended this detail, but I love the phrasing of "not gonna die tonight." It focuses on the present. It's not concerned with tomorrow. God can worry about tomorrow. I can take care of my duties today. I love it!

My OpinionThis song kinda added a true hip-hop feel to Skillet and made an energy that people could truly get hooked on to. To me, this is a true battle anthem, telling the world that I'm not gonna give in and break.

General CommentFor me, this song would be about fighting against a dystopian society like in Divergent.

My InterpretationI thought it was about depression and that it was slowly "killing" him. But he stands up and says "NO! Not gonna die tonight!". That's what I think

General CommentIt seems to be about a person who doesn't think he will die tonight. But if he did, he wouldn't realize it, since he would be dead.

General CommentI get the impression this song is telling the story of someone battling addiction and quite possibly on the brink of an overdose. The 2nd singer who is probably very close to him is there at this critical moment. She states "the last thing I heard was you whispering goodbye. Then I heard you flatline." He doesn't die and together they are going to "take their life back". They know it will be hard but they're determined to fight and take their life back. It's about finding your own personal strength and resolve to overcome challenges that may cause most people to simply give up. They're going to take a stand and fight together.

General CommentSo I agree it is someone trying to get through an addiction. I believe at least two addictions are showed. One is drugs, and the other is alcohol. Though I don't know what the shot of the girl rising from the dust like a mummy and the poisoned gas that the person uses a / Or any ideas on what those two shots could represent in general?gas mask to get though. Any ideas on what addictions though could represent
