Open the slits in your face and start your day
You don't have much time to make your slits look just right
I'm in your mind
I'm singing
I'm in your mind
I'm singing
La da, la da, la da, la da, la da, la da

Look in the mirror and ask your soul if you're alright
Put out the glitter that your soul hides behind
You're in my mind
I'm singing
You're in my mind
I'm singing
La da, la da, la da, la da, la da, la da

Nowhere were they holy
Open up your eyes and see
The clouds above will hold you
The clouds above will sing

And in your mind
You're singing
La da, la da, la da, la da, la da, la da

    My Interpretation

This song reminds me of something referenced in Franny and Zooey by J.D. Salinger, where Franny is discussing a book she's reading, and a pilgrim is exploring ways of praying incessantly. Long story short, she says how the pilgrim learns that the 'prayer' becomes self-active, and, in the words of Franny:

"I don't know what, but something happens, and the words get synchronized with the person's heartbeats... Which has a really tremendous, mystical effect on your whole outlook. I mean that's the whole point of it, more or less. I mean you do it to get an absolutely new concept of what everything's about."

My point being, if people repeat things enough, it becomes like second nature to people - we're BORN being used to breathing, and we do it without even realising. To me, this may be what he means when he says "I'm in your mind, I'm singing La-da La-da La-da La-da La-da La-da Da" - this repetition is a coping mechanism for the world, and becomes a way of life for these people, similar to a prayer.

With this repetition, the changing of perspective occurs: "Nowhere were they holy Open up your eyes and see The clouds above will hold you The clouds above will sing."

Though something/someone you used to believe in may have faltered in your perspective and faith, there's so much else if you just open up your eyes. This world - this universe, even - isn't one dimensional, and if you open your mind, you'll come to grasp that and maybe even learn to cope better with things.

Though in a rough patch in life you may feel like it's never going to change, through time and learning and growing from the situation, you'll find your own "La-da La-da La-da La-da La-da La-da Da", something Tyler probably learnt first hand with his own life experiences.

    My Interpretation

This song has a lot to do with finding the thing that makes life living for you.

"Open the slits in your face and start your day You don't have much time to make your slits look just right"

Wake up and start your day. You might not have a lot of time in the morning to make yourself look your best but you still have to go out an take on the day.

When Tyler says: "I'm in your mind I'm singing I'm in your mind I'm singing La da, la da, la da, la da, la da, la da"

He is basically saying that he wants his music to be a reason for the listener to want to start their day. With the repetition of "La da, la da, la da, la da, la da, la da" throughout the entire song, I think Tyler is trying to say that the music is his reason to start his day. Music for his is a reason to be alive. Its almost as if he feels that without the music, he is nothing but wasted space.

"Look in the mirror and ask your soul if you're alright Put out the glitter that your soul hides behind"

In this verse Tyler is saying that in order to start your day, you have to at least be relatively "okay". You have to be motivated to even get out of bed and if you're not okay then that motivation is lost. The next line speaks about how people put up a front to hide how they're really feeling. People don't pour out their soul to everyone that they encounter on a daily basis. Putting on that figurative glitter is like hiding behind a smile in order to portray to the world that you are okay.

"You're in my mind I'm singing You're in my mind I'm singing La da, la da, la da, la da, la da, la da"

Here we go back to the repetition. Its almost as if Tyler is personifying his music and giving it its own voice. The music is always in his mind and singing is his reason to be.

"Nowhere were they holy Open up your eyes and see The clouds above will hold you The clouds above will sing"

I didn't know until recently that Tyler Joseph is of a religious background and that he makes a lot of religious references throughout his songs, especially on the self-titled album. In this stanza I think Tyler is trying to say that all the people that judge you have no right to judge you. "Nowhere they were holy" - these people who label you and judge you have no right to do that because the only one that can judge you is God. "Open up your eyes and see" - realize that God is there and that he is the only one who really understands the struggle that you are dealing with. "The clouds above will hold you, The clouds above will sing" - God will always be there to love you and to help you get through your struggles. At your best and at your worst, God is there, not the people who judge you for who you are.

"And in your mind You're singing La da, la da, la da, la da, la da, la da"

With this last part of the song, Tyler is basically telling us as the listeners to reflect on our lives and to find our own "La da, la da, la da, la da, la da, la da"; our own reason to make life worth living.

This song is really emotional and it really hits home for me. It really helped me to realize that life is rally worth it and that even in the bleakest of times, God is always there. Even if you can't relate o the religious references whatsoever, Tyler is just trying to convince you that this life is the only one you get and that its worth it and that you should live it to the fullest.

Tyler generally sings about stuff that he has been through himself, but I know he doesn't make it so that his songs have a particular meaning, but rather makes his songs so that you ca interpret what you need from the lyrics. Does that make sense????? Anyway, that's just what I've heard and I love seeing what people take from their songs

    My Interpretation

I think the song is about someone who wakes up in the morning (Open the slits in your face) and has to get ready for the day.For me personally it sounds like the person puts their make up on in the morning (You don't have much time to make your slits look just right/look in the mirror/Put out the glitter that your soul hides behind) and they are really insecure about their face or their looks because they "hide behind it".The person is also not sure if they are okay (ask your soul if you're alright).I also think that at first it's Tylers voice in the persons mind maybe it's one if his songs that help the person or it's something Tyler said. And later the person is on the Tylers mind because he thinksaid of them. And in the end it looks to me like Tyler wants the person to stop hiding and open their eyes and see all the good things.(Open up your eyes and see The clouds above will hold you The clouds above will sing) And (And in your mind You're singing  La da, la da, la da, la da, la da, la da) could means that in the end the person doesn't need Tylers voice in their head anymore because they can "sing" for themselves now

When I hear this song I think it's talking about how people, I possibly think it would be talking about a girl since it's saying how you put out the glitter or how your slits don't look right on how we think we don't look good enough to fit in and that we start to worry and think that because we don't look good enough were not good enough and it "in your mind"

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Holiday
Bee Gees
@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
