"Enemy" as written by Salaam Remi and Writers Unknown....
I want everything to be perfect
Pick you apart at the seams
Drown you out if I don’t want to hear you
Crush every single one of your dreams

I’m going under the water it’s pulling me down
I can’t help myself

I’m my own worst enemy, enemy, enemy
It’ll be the end of me, end of me, end of me

I wanted to go the distance
I met everything with resistance
I pulled the pin out on the grenade
Burned down everything I had made

As I struggle in here I see angels near
Can’t help myself

I’m my own worst enemy, enemy, enemy
It’ll be the end of me, end of me, end of me
And the coast is clear on me, clear on me, clear on me
I’m my own worst enemy, enemy
I’m an open field

I put on my armour
Strap on my boots
Look around to see which weapons I’ll choose
I’m going for medals, decoration
I’m pulling out from my lonely station

So I’ll call you if I need help
I’ll call you if I need help
I’ll call you if I need help

I’m my own worst enemy, enemy, enemy
It’ll be the end of me, end of me, end of me
And the coast is clear on me, clear on me, clear on me
I’m my own worst enemy
Enemy in an open field

Just leave me alone here
Just leave me alone here
Alone here
Just leave me alone

My InterpretationI submitted these lyrics, I have no idea why "In an open field" was changed to "I’m an open field", that doesn't even make sense. She said "in an open field" already. Its in the chorus. Look at the chorus, at the end in one of them it says "I’m my own worst enemy, enemy / I’m an open field" and at the end of the other it says "I’m my own worst enemy / Enemy in an open field". How can someone BE an open field?? That's just dumb.

Okay, I have things to say about the lyrics themselves. They're really trying to make it clear that she has no external obstacles (the "open field" and "coast is clear" stuff) and she even has someone who she trusts to be on her side (the "I'll call you if I need help" interlude), and those are strange things to put emphasis on. This song is basically about a lady who is self destructive though she otherwise has a fairly easy life. Odd thing to write a song about but okay. Anyways, the beat and singing are really powerful in this, captures the mood, makes me imagine a soldier marching onward to the beat of war drums. I really like the first half of the song "I wanted to go the distance / I met everything with resistance / I pulled the pin out on the grenade / Burned down everything I had made" oh man that's totally my personality.
