I didn't want to say out loud
in case it came untrue
but I now know why I'm on this earth
to try to be with you
oh can't you tell I'm different now
by the music that I play
the songs I thought were soppy before
sound wonderful today
alright, alright
it's the music that I love
alright, alright
it's the music that I love

she looks like Julie Christie
and she's blotted out my past
she had it all laid out for me
I never stood a chance
we took the essence of Felt and Vic Godard
and we blasted into space
and then we showered down on everyone
the whole soppy human race

alright, alright
it's the music that I love
alright, alright
it's the music that I love

I'm lying in the bed
I'm lying in the bed
I'm holding on to you
holding on to you
I'm supposed to be meeting little Jim
but why would I be any happier out there than I am in here, in here

I've wanted to say this for so long
but I haven't had the nerve
I realise now what I've been missing
you looked like Julie Christie when I met you
I wanted to laugh out loud
oh can't you tell I'm different now
I'm smiling in the crowd

alright, alright
it's the music that I love
alright, alright
it's the music that I love
alright, alright
it's the music that I love
alright
alright, alright
it's the music that I love

Light Up The Sky
Van Halen
The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
