Don't panic
No, not yet
I know I'm the one you want to forget
Cue all the love to leave my heart
It's time for me to fall apart

Now you're gone
But I'll be okay
Your hot whisky eyes
Have fanned the flames
Maybe I'll burn a little brighter tonight
Let the fire breathe me back to life

Baby, you were my picket fence
I miss missing you now and then
Chlorine kissed summer skin
I miss missing you now and then
Sometimes before it gets better
The darkness gets bigger
The person that you'd take a bullet for is behind the trigger
Oh, we're fading fast
I miss missing you now and then

Making eyes at this husk around my heart
I see through you when we're sitting in the dark
So give me your filth
Make it rough
Let me, let me trash your love

I will sing to you every day
If it will take away the pain
Oh and I've heard you got it, got it so bad
'Cause I am the best you'll never have

Baby, you were my picket fence
I miss missing you now and then
Chlorine kissed summer skin
I miss missing you now and then
Sometimes before it gets better
The darkness gets bigger
The person that you'd take a bullet for is behind the trigger
Oh, we're fading fast
I miss missing you now and then

Now and then
Now and then
Now and then

Baby, you were my picket fence
I miss missing you now and then

    My Interpretation

Don't panic No, not yet I know I'm the one you want to forget Cue all the love to leave my heart It's time for me to fall apart

She's left him because she no longer wants him and she just wants to forget him entirely. He's telling himself not to panic, at least not yet. The shock hasn't set in yet, and when it does, he forces the love out of his heart, and begins to fall apart.

Now you're gone But I'll be okay Your hot whiskey eyes Have fanned the flame Maybe I'll burn a little brighter tonight Let the fire breathe me back to life

He's accepted the fact that she's gone, but he knows that he'll make it out alive. He'll be okay in time.

Baby, you were my picket fence I miss missing you now and then

When he says she was his picket fence, he means he envisioned a future for the two of them together; you know, nice little home with a nice little garden surrounded by a white picket fence. He wanted a happy life with her, but she's gone now and when he looks back on it, he remembers how much he used to miss her and although he no longer does, he misses missing her as much as he used to, because what they had was real to him and he misses dwelling on what could have been.

Sometimes before it gets better The darkness gets bigger The person that you'd take a bullet for is behind the trigger Oh We're fading fast I miss missing you now and then

This has to be my favorite verse. Because it's true, when you're just going through a breakup, everything seems bleak and you feel hopeless, but you need that darkness before you recover, because you need to feel this pain. If you don't, then it will never get better. You have to let yourself go through the heartbreak and suffering in order to get better, because the person you loved so much and were willing to "take a bullet for" is the one that shot you so to speak, and you have to accept that what you had is over, because they decided to pull the trigger. You just have to get through the dark days so that brighter days will come in the future.

Making eyes at this husk around my heart I see through you When we're sitting in the dark So give my your filth Make it rough Let me let me trash your love

He wants her to admit to what she's done. Perhaps she wronged him by cheating on him. He wants her to give him the cold hard truth and not spare his feelings so that he can let go of his love for her completely, hence the line "let me trash your love".

I will sing to you everyday If it will take away the pain Oh, and I've heard you got got it so bad 'Cause I'm the best you'll never have

She's come around again, and she wants him once more. He no longer wants her and shoves this in her face by telling her that he's the best and she should have realized that when they were together. The first two lines make me laugh because they're very sarcastic and he's basically saying well it's too bad that you want me now that I don't want you anymore, but I'll keep singing if it'll make you hurt less, though he really could care less now, because he doesn't miss her or want her the way he used to.

"The person that you’d take a bullet for is behind the trigger"

Yeah, that's sooo true. For me it seems like the person you'd do anything for is the one who's doing all of the damage to you, like they're "killing" you.

I think this song is dedicated to the people Pete loves. I mean, it's evident in the first lyric: "Don't panic/No not yet" This may just be my inner fangirl coming out, but I think it's a reference to Panic! at the Disco, a band that Pete discovered and is fairly chummy with, especially considering they opened up for FOB on their latest US tour. The rest, disregarding the first snippet, reminds me of someone he loved but it wasn't mutual anymore. Who that could be...I'm not one to say.
But this lyric is pretty convincing: "Baby you were my picket fence I miss missing you now and then" What really convinces me of this is the graphics displayed when they (FOB) were touring. At their arena tour, when this song was being performed, there was a projection going on behind them of a suburban looking house with a crisp, clean picket fence out front. They're perfect together, a good pair. It's idealistic...picket fences and houses go well together. But then, the picket fence catches on fire. That's symbolizing the loss. The picket fence gets destroyed in front of the house's eyes and leaves it behind...yet the house still needs its protection. The house is somewhat damaged without it, as Pete felt when he was abandoned by someone/thing and in turn wrote this song about it

    My Interpretation

I think this song is about a relationship that ended badly but still wanting the stability of the person. Like where the beginning when they say "Don't panic, no not yet, I know i'm the one you want to forget" he's making it clear right off the bat that he knows he's not getting her back and he's okay with it. The first verse is him telling himself that he doesn't need her and its okay that she's gone because its for the better while the second verse is him realizing how much she fucked him up and he just wanting her to know how she was awful to him but was nothing but good to her. Which is displayed in the lines "I will sing to you every day, if it'll take away the pain, oh and i know you've got it got it so bad, because i am the best you'll never have."

Then the chorus which I think is the most beautifully written part because of the pain that caused it. "Baby, you were my picket fence" this metaphor is to show how he did plan for them to last as a couple but also how she was his stablity and his home, and thats why, even after all this time, he still misses her. Because she meant so much to him even though she really hurt him which you can tell from the line "The person that you’d take a bullet for is behind the trigger." It just shows again how much he cared for her only to realize she didn't feel the same. And then, the line "Sometimes before it gets better, The darkness gets bigger" shows that they were in a really awful relationship and when they finally broke up it didn't just get better. Because he loved her and eve though she was the problem, he relied on her. And finally the lines "Were fading fast, I miss missing you now and then" show that he's thinking about this all in hindsight, and that even though he's gotten over her and every things okay, he still thinks about her from time to time and even though as time goes on he thinks about her less and less, the memory of her will always be with him

    Memory

I will sing to you every day If it will take away the pain Oh and I’ve heard you got it, got it so bad 'Cause I am the best you’ll never have

I will sing this to you until i fell no pain of losing you, no actually not just for me to fell no pain, but also for you to realize that you never value the time that i was there and now I'm the best you'll never had. and maybe you are the best I never want to have.

Baby, you were my picket fence I miss missing you now and then

Yes baby, you are the best idea of the perfect tomorrow that comes on my mind before and now i don't know if I miss you or I just miss the way I used to miss you.

Chlorine kissed summer skin I miss missing you now and then. Sometimes before it gets better The darkness gets bigger

Why is it so true that before it gets better the darkness gets bigger. Now I am dealing in the darkness of moving on. Moving on to the memories we spend together. I know this wont last, but i don't know for how long this darkness would last. I'll overcome this i'll face the sunshine again.

The person that you’d take a bullet for is behind the trigger Oh, we’re fading fast I miss missing you now and then

The person i'd pull out of the wreckage is also the person who pushes me into the darkness. We're really fading fast, fast like it never happen, like there was never an us, like i don't exist.

In the Bible and other literature (and Sting songs) "burn" is code for being horny, and that's how I take it here.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
